I've got a 15 month himalayan and 6 month old stray, both female. They've been living together for about 1.5 months now. At first they would hiss at each other but now they eat together, hang out on the bed together, and chase each other around. Sometimes their "playing" gets rather physical--they wrestle and grab each other and get all wrapped up and then one might get away and lunge again for a new grab or one might run away and the other gives chase and grabs them and they get all tied up again. It looks like two wrestlers hug eachother tightly. Is this normal? Should it be encouraged or discouraged?

Hi there!

It sounds like they are getting along great! The wrestling is totally normal and it can end in tears sometimes - but it's best to leave them to it! As long as they aren't hissing and arching their backs when fighting, it is just play.

As long as there is no serious damage done then it should all be fine. My two cats do this all the time, and it is great exercise for them! :)

The only concern I have with my guys is that they tend to use their back feet a lot when playing, and I am concerned with them accidentally injuring the other. Because of this, I make sure to keep their claws trimmed so that they don't get too long. Otherwise, generally just let them go at it! They have a great time and you can tell that it is just a game even when they get pretty physical.

Overall, I think you should be encouraged. They are getting good exercise and developing healthy personalities where they learn to interact with another cat. Enjoy the activity :)

You are SO LUCKY that your 2 females LOVE each other! They're playing and having a great time. When mine do that, I love watching them, instead of the TV. The cats are much more entertaining. The reason I say "You're lucky" is.....so many times 2 females will NOT get along. But it sounds like your 15 month old is "mommying" your baby. That's a good thing! Hope all stays well..............Good luck.......

What you've described is normal feline behavior. They are play-wrestling for dominance. Most cats in a multi-cat household will do this. It's nothing to worry about unless they are getting too rough with each other. As long as they're not actually harming each other then I would just ignore them. They'll be back washing each other's faces in no time. :)

This is just 'normal' cat play. I could sit and watch them do this for hours at a time, as long as no tables or furniture gets knocked over in the process.
If one gets the 'better' of the other, they may 'cool' it, but this is just their way of playing.

Yes, it is fine for cats to do that. Completely normal. Either they are "wrestling" for dominance or just for fun. Alot of animals do that, like dogs and ferrets.
