All religious books are full of stories. Some of these stories are heavily edited histories. Some are fairy tales. All were written to control men. And there is ample proof for all this.

Dude, who's attacking you?
The only Christians I have a problem with are the ones who try to tell EVERYONE what to do, and when and how to do it. That pisses me off, because they don't have the right to do that, any more than I have the right to dictate anything to them.
It isn't your religion I object to, it's your attitude. If you feel Christianity is under attack, maybe you're one of those busybodies.
As for calling it a fairytale, you have exactly as much objective data as I do about the existence and nature of deity, which is to say, none. I "know" the Goddess exists because I can hear and speak to her. Presumably, you hear and speak to yours as well. But this is not objective data. What else is there? A book? Yes, written by faliable mortals and retranslated so many times that any pretense of divine inspiration has been seriously compromised. At least we know that the authors of our lore were mortal, and take their words accordingly.
Ultimately, all of mankind's lore and myth boil down to an attempt to wrap our minds around what is truly incomprehensible. Can you fathom what that word really means? No matter how much we understand, we can't ever really "know." Not really. But we keep trying, and in the process, bring ourselves a little closer to the divinity from which we sprang.

although i am not an atheis, i can see how they feel somewhat "attacked", at least in the usa. the last several years christians seem to have gained power with the religious right and surgance of the g.o.p. i think they are pushing back a little. although i am an agnostic, i would not demean anothers religious belief, be they hindu, jew, christian, whatever. this is a forum that can lend itself to snide remarks though, because of the anonimity.

Christianity is not under any sort of attack.
At some point you need to realize that disagreeing with the beliefs of a religion is not at all the same thing as attacking it.
If someone thinks your religion is a fairy tale it, is NO different that you thinking that the ancient Roman and Greek religions are myths.

I'm a Christian. Not everybody in the world shares our beliefs. Get used to it. Many people view Christianity as mythology, no different than Norse or Greco-Roman mythology, and subsequently tend to categorize all mythology (as well as everything else they don't believe in) as "fairy tales". It's not just Christianity that gets this treatment. I've met plenty of people who feel that Wicca, Islam, Hinduism, Judaism, and all other religions are "fairy tales", too.

I don't call your faith a fairytale, but you Christains caused the suicide of a Wiccan girl by you all ridiculing her faith. Wiccan's don't care about your faith, why bombarde Wiccans with yours?
Poor Tempest. She never had a chance, with you CHRISTIANS. All you ever do is ridicule other religions. Wiccans don't worship the devil. (Well, the really psycho ones do, but that's about .239674[or .24] out of 1% of the Wiccan population.)
I apologize if you feel offended, but it's not like everyone just figured that out.

Well, can you back up your stories with evidence? I mean the supernatural stuff. Can you back up any of that with any kind of evidence.
As to why many people are lashing out against religion, its because religion has been working so hard to push religion on the world. Right now there are religious people trying to change science to match the religious views. That was the kind of thing that happened in the dark ages. Right now, there are people who want prayer required in public schools and the bible used as a textbook in public schools. There are people who want people of their religion given preferential treatment and those of other religions given worse treatment. There are people in religion who want a religious war. They want their religion to reign supreme. There are people who are christian who want this as well as people who are muslim who want this. People pushing their religion on others is one of the biggest problems in this world. To help fight this, some people point out the flaws in religion in hopes that some people will re-evaluate what they are doing. To maybe realize that not everyone wants to share in their beliefs. Maybe these people will stop pushing their religion and instead keep it personal and to themselves.

It is what it is. You don't believe what all other religions AND non-religious people believe so you think the same about us, do you not?
Really though, don't get so worked up. We're all entitled to our opinion.
I love this quote.
I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours

Because it is the one most people are educated about, you can't pick at a religion you know nothing about. And if it wasn't so irrational and illogical it wouldn't be so easy to say that it was equal to peter pan. For everything else in the world people need proof, even proof of love. But oh, who needs proof from god "we're alive aren't we" its bull crap. Reality, science, education and the earth itself are proof that we were not created by a higher being.

Why do you attack Hellenic Polytheism, Norse Polytheism OR ANY OTHER PAGAN RELIGION by calling our faiths "MYTHS" or "FAIRYTALES"? Those who call Christianity a "fairytale" are only taking their example FROM the Christians themselves.
My religion is no more a fairytale or myth than yours is.....
