Go right ahead.
For one thing, no dry food is going to clean the teeth so there's absolutely no reason to feed a special dental diet - I assume that's what you bought?
On top of that, that food is unhealthy so there's absolutely no reason to feed it.
However, Whiskas is just as unhealthy, albeit more affordable.
So if you're going to feed that quality of food, then you might as well pay less.
That said, I'd like to suggest some alternatives. First, cut out the dry food entirely, or at least add some canned food to the diet. If you go half and half that would be ok, although no dry at all is really best.
Get a better quality dry food such as Innova Evo, Wellness Core or Nature's Variety Instincts.
Feed a good quality canned food such as Evo, Wellness or Natural Balance. There are other good ones, but these tend to be the most easily found.
For dental health, see the link for suggestions. You can try to brush your cat's teeth or wipe them with a gauze pad. You can feed them chicken necks (raw), or you can look into supplements to add to the food which promotes a healthy environment in the mouth.

Please read this and all questions you have will be answered.
Yes change food dry is bad and does nothing to help a cats teeth or anything else. All of the people who read this and fuss just read the info. You will insure that you have a healthy cat if you follow Dr. Lisa's advice. She is a DVM and has devoted her life to teaching proper cat diet.
By dropping dry you are giving your cat a chance of not having diabetes.
Good Luck and honest you won't be sorry.

Definitely switch. That stuff is crap and your Vet pockets the money they make off of dog/cat food they sell. Don't listen to your Vet when it comes to food, they are idiots in that department.
Whiskas is HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE.
Get your cat on Felidae, Wellness, Eagle Pack Holistic, Chicken Soup for the Cat Lovers Soul...any one of these would be a HUGE difference for your cats health.
Felidae is the most affordable high quality cat food you can get.....HIGH QUALITY and AFFORDABLE is what you are looking for...not just grocery store affordable.

If your vet put the cat on the presc diet, there was a good reason....However, if the plaque is gone, and the vet says that was the ONLY reason he was on it, ask him if you can switch, now. He'll have a recommendation as to the best food for your cat. Good luck.............

The presciption dental food is crap and won't help promote dental health. Instead, you should consider oral rinses or gels or toothpastes (for cats).
A dry food diet is NOT good for cats as it contains fillers that cats do not need...they need protein from meat and certain vitamins and thats it.

Don't choose Whiskas, they are BAD. I prefer Hill's Science Diet, they are good and not expensive.

I'd stick with the vet's advice. Just check and see if they make a version with smaller pieces.
