They have a part within them that causes a snap when pulled. I'm worried this may count as a firework or similar and cause problems with the TSA.

No you cannot, not in carryon luggage or hold luggage! You cannot fly with crackers. I have tried it before on a flight from London to AZ and they were confiscated. You may luck out and get through, but my recommendation is not to waste your money. Unfortunately in most parts of the USA you cannot buy them when you get there...we don't use crackers in the USA like they do in England, but I did find some little ones at William Sonoma (a bit expensive) but at least I could share the English tradition with my family.

You definitely can't take them as hand luggage but you might be able to take them as checked in luggage. My friend posts a box every year, so they must go as hold luggage and has never had a problem.

call the airlines and ask them that is the only way you are going to get an accurate answer . good luck and merry christmas.

Instead take Fortnum and Mason Mincemeat Shortbread - something edible will be appreciated by the starving Americans.
