Yes. First, it reserves around 5GB for OS. And HDDs actual capacity varies from the one you'll see on the box. That's correct for all HDDs.

Yes. The PS3 reserves some of the hard drive for system use, so you don't get all 80GB.

yeah, it is just like any other computer.what is taken up on the drive now is like the system configuration block on the ps2 memory card.
