Nope, a belief in evolution does not accompany atheism, they are not related. Evolution is a belief in a theory about how life changes over time, and explains the increasing biodiversity on the planet. Atheism simply means you do not believe in any higher power. I don't see why the two would necessarily relate.

Accepting evolution does not mean that you need to be an atheist. Many believers accept it but also believe that their diety was involved in some capacity.
Edit:
Of course, if you take most holy books literally, evolution does pose a problem for the assorted creation stories, but it is just one of many thing that does this.

Patty,
YOU are confused... Atheists do not necessarily believe in evolution and evolutionists are not necessarily atheist. The Interviewer could be a scientist or former science major as I was in college. That does not have any bearing on his/her religious/non-religious status. Have a great week.
Thanks,

I think that is a forgone conclusion in any discussion.
Anyone who understands the impact of evolution of scientific inquiry or mind-numbing calculations of modern cosmology (notice my subtle tweaking of your point), almost certainly sees the atheist position as logical.
Whether or not they will admit it in public is another matter.
But notice how difficult it is to get a *great* scientist of the modern age to discuss these matters in public...unless they are already an atheist in practice.

EDIT
***********************
"Believe" is an interesting juxtaposition. I am an atheist. Do I believe in evolution? No, I understand that the scientific community overwhelmingly accepts evolution as supported by the evidence. They are the judge of what is and is not science. Even though their evidence sounds overwhelming to me, too, I am not an expert on these matters and it is not particularly important to my life or line of work.
Even if Atheist <> evolution,
(And I agree they are not the same thing)
Doesn't everyone have to, kinda, sorta, agree that science makes religion increasingly irrelevant as an explanation for anything of value?
And, therefore, it's logical to assume that if one is an Atheist, one also has a regard for science and thus evolution??

The ToE and atheism are two independent ideas. Atheism precedes the ToE by thousands of years.
