Christians please explain. If you believe in evolution, why the need for a god. If all life took was time, and random chance changes, why bother with any form of faith? Is God not, pointless?

Your use of the phrase, "random chance" illustrates the problem.
Random chance is not a causal agent and so does not describe the cause of anything. Random chance describes our own knowledge of the cause, or more accurately, our lack of knowledge. To say something is caused by chance is the same as saying we don't have any idea what caused it.

So random chance doesn't explain anything and it's use in a theory is an admission of ignorance.

I don't believe random chance is sufficient to explain speciation. The vast majority of mutations are non-viable. Of the ones that remain, the vast majority make no difference at all. I wrote a simulation program a few years ago to test the effects of random mutation on a gene pool. Keep in mind that my field is mathematics, not biology, so I'm not claiming the results are valid, but it seemed to indicate that mutation will degrade a gene pool, not improve it. If that's the case, then something else must be going on. (No - this does not prove God is in charge of it. Just that there is a mechanism as yet not understood.)

When I was in college I had a very knowledgeable priest who explained God as the first mover. The beginning. I always admired that explanation because it lets science fit into the biblical rendition of how the world and universe were create. God set into motion all of the event. I don't understand why it is so hard to reconcile this idea with those who want it biblical and those who want it scientific.

I dont believe in evolution. You seriously think anyone no matter how smart they are actually knew what happened Billions of years ago?. Millions? People dont even really know what happend 10 thousand years ago. Theistic evolution is for those Christians who don't fully trust the bible.

I'm sure their belief in God doesn't hing on evolution. They believe in God for other reasons, yet also accept science. They can then believe that all the science we see was set up by God, or is observed by God, or guided by God. But their ultimate belief in God is probably more personal then the need for a God in evolution.

Kinda bakes yer noodle, dunninit?

Yeah, I believe in God and evolution. No, God is anything but pointless. Religion has warped faith over time. So, I think lots of doctrine is wrong.

Beyond that, whatever issue remains, is yours.

They can argue the "First Mover" argument.

Most non-Catholics won't argue for Theistic Evolution though. This requires that they acknowledge that some parts of the Bible are figurative, not literal. In so doing, they cede a HUGE argument to the Catholics, in that the Catholic Church has always claimed that there has always been a need to interpret the Bible, and the organization best suited to do that is the Church in the Apostolic lineage.

Nah, because the theory of evolution doesn't explain the "why" or where matter came from.

A better question would be: Doesn't accepting the ToE invalidate the story of Genesis? If you're not taking the bible literally, then who is the arbiter of what is metaphor and what is veritable fact...

You gotta admire the fundies for their convictions. Now that's faith! Everything else is just cherry pickin'...
