I bought my boyfriend (now fiance) a really nice, expensive white gold ring for our 2 year anniversary. He loves it and wears it on a chain round his neck.
We are planning our wedding for July and on a budget. he has told me not to spend money on a wedding band. He wants to use the ring I gave him as a wedding band. He has never really worn it on his finger because it only fitted his wedding finger, and in his job it is too dangerous for him to wear a ring anyway.
He said he loves this ring and it will do him for a wedding band. I guess we can get it polished up so it looks new. I was wondering what others think about using this ring? would you do it? He is insisting that he wants to wear this ring as his wedding band. I thought maybe if he doesnt want a new ring I could buy him a new chain to wear it on when he is working.
Is this what you would do? Or would you just go and get a new ring? He says he wouldnt find one he likes as much as the one he has and that it means a lot 2 him

He says now he will fineally get to wear it on his finger, it only ever fitted his wedding finger and he felt funny wearing it there. Once we are married he said he is looking forward to actually wearing it.

Yeah, that sounds like a good idea. If both of you are okay with it, I don't see what the problem is. Take it and get it cleaned right before the wedding so it will look brand new.

Fit is past tense for fit, not fitted.

That being said, I think its great that he doesn't need a brand new ring for no reason! If the ring has sentimental value to him, i think its a good idea for you both to use it as a wedding band as well. If its white gold, you can take it to a jewler and have it re-dipped so it turns very white again, and that will take care of any wear and tear that is showing on it.

I would respect his choice and let him use this as a wedding ring. Perhaps you can engrave a message or your wedding date on the ring for him? I got my husband a gold ring (that only fit his ringfinger) while we were dating. He wore it all the way up to our wedding date. At which point, he took off the gold ring and replaced it with a new platinum band I had for him. He originally wanted to use the gold ring as his wedding ring... but after he saw the engraving on the platinum ring (Ruth 1: 16-17 - two verses that he held close to his heart), he willingly took the new one.

The message: let him keep that ring and be happy with it!

Who cares what anybody else thinks.

If he wants to wear it as a wedding ring and you have no problems with it, then fine.

It is not about the wedding ring, it is about the commitment. Seems he has always looked at it as the commitment ring and he can finally wear it as the official wedding ring.

Good Luck.

I think that's a great idea. And if you are feeling like he is getting stiffed out of something new, why not get him a nice watch or cufflinks with his initials engraved to wear on the day, so that you can still give him a wedding gift.

If he wants the ring to be his wedding ring then that's what I would do. He loves the ring and wants to wear it. You can't ask for more than that.

If this is the ring he wants to wear - what's the problem? He's a big boy, and can make a decision; just go with it. Congrats.

Ya know there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. If it were me , i would take it as a compliment, it shows that he really valued what you bought him on your anniversary. As far as not wearing due to the job, thats ok! my husband wears his in the evening, and on the weekend. anytime he is not at work. Good luck!

He doesn't sound like the type of guy to wear a lot of jewelry so it does sound like he's being both practical and reasonable. I would say that would be a fine thing to do, especially with your money situation. Sounds like a really understanding guy, consider yourself lucky!

He'll only wear his wedding band the rest of his life. If you think its ok, i would do it. SO, i think you should allow it, if you want to. your choice
