No, the architecture of the PS3 will not support a Windows installation. Windows will only run with an i386 compatible processor, whereas the processor in the PS3 is of the PowerPC architecture similar to Apple Macs.
The way to do this is install Linux and then use Virtualbox or another virtual machine application to run Windows. Although this has been done before, I can't think of any reason why you would want to do this, as the PS3 has only 256MB RAM, and to run a virtual machine needs 512MB at the absolute minimum. It will run horrendously slow.

The best thing to do is install Linux, as it is compatible with the PS3. Fedora and Kubuntu are good distros.

You can, if you install it on top of the Linux OS. But it's not worth it, because it'll run really slow and you won't be able to play games, since DirectX isn't supported by PS3. It's going to run VERY unstable too.

The PS3 could technically run windows through wine on Linux, but it would be very slow and wouldn't work correctly.

People have done it but why would you risk putting the most vulnerable to virus's Operating system on your ps3?
Linux works best.
