I am looking for something for self defense. Pistols, tazers and pepper spray are outlawed where I live.

Can someone point me to a fake pistol that looks real just for intimidation?

My bro got mugged recently by a few guys with knives. Made me think I should have a little more then my bare hands for self defense. I have no intention of pointing it at a cop.

What about AirSoft and BB guns? I have a BB Repeater pistol that looks incredibly realistic (has a slide, mag, and barrel with hidden CO2 compartment in grip) and they are legal in CA. Or you could always make your own pepperspray using hot sauce and vinegar in a spray bottle.

The downside to a fake gun is if the person you are trying to intimidate has a real one, your results might not be as planned.

Fake Pistols

Threatening someone with a fake gun can carry the same legal consequences in most states as threatening someone with a real gun. The only difference is that the fake one won't save your life if they don't get the picture and take off. In some places, certain look-alike guns are illegal, as well.

If this is for home defense, you should take a look at getting a shotgun. If this is for personal defense, apply for a pistol license, and, if denied, then every time you're leaving the house, call the police and request an escort to where you're going. It'll get old quick, and as we all know, the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Reapply and see if they don't give you one.

You could try a Tazer, that way you can disable someone without actually killing them, and instead of holding a fake gun to their head, you could just shoot them before they even know you are there, and you won't have to worry about them figuring out that your gun is fake. Now about the animals, I don't know why a Tazer would not take care of them, but of course you have limited range... Now with BB guns, you should get a BB rifle, because the pistols are usually inaccurate, so that won't hit some animal at medium range... And I have never liked gas powered BB guns because they usually get messed up one way or another... An electric power would be good, and they are quite powerful and accurate if you get the expensive[ish] one. But I prefer a real gun, I mean, no kids are going to get to it if you just put it in a gun safe or something... You should get an automatic because revolvers don't have safety locks and I think you want one of those.

A fake pistol will get you killed, perhaps even by a cop. FUGIDABOUTIT!

If handguns and non-lethal defensive weapons are illegal, you need a cane.

Go to www.canemasters.com, check out the products offered, then call Master Mark Shuey and discuss the cane you need, training aids, and for recommendation of a dojo in your city.

I have one of CaneMasters Teardrop shaped canes with a single fang and no fancy stuff added. It is just a plain, strong, workmanlike hickory cane that can not only support my bulk when my knee gives me problems, but it will put a badguy in the hospital wondering what the hell hit him, and what ripped into his groin like an ice hook.

DO NOT BUY A FAKE GUN,it could cost you you life.
Having no gun is far better than having a toy gun.

I have over 40years of experience with real guns and know.I've shot stupid people with toy guns, because in reality everybody doesn't play fair and on the street you don't get to ask a series of provocative questions ,like on TV ,first.

I taught my kids self defense. It worked very well or if necessary there are a number of personal weapons you can easily make yourself to carry if necessary.

The first thing i teach everyone is NEVER take out a gun to intimidate anyone.Real or fake there are some people who will try you anyway.

Fake pistol for intimidation= really bad idea. In most states if you have a gun or brandish a gun in public the law does not differentiate between loaded and unloaded, real of fake. It is all the same and carries the same restrictions.

There are many that look just like the real ones, but you need to think this through. A man approaches you with a knife, and you pull the fake gun. He may run away,.... he may kill you with the knife, and claim self defense, because you pulled a gun on him......Hardened criminals are not easily intimidated. My personal opinion, is....you would be putting yourself at a great risk, trying to bluff someone with a fake gun.......a dangerous move.....

If someone points ANY pistol at me, they better be ready to pull the trigger, because MY pistol is real and fires real bullets.Point a fake gun at someone who is armed, thats a really good way to die.
Remember the police officer in NJ that shot and killed the 9yr old with a real looking fake pistol? The family tried to sue the department and lost, because it was ruled the officer had reasonable cause to fire his weapon.

Get the real thing & forget about the fake gun.* Very unwise approach to your problem.* Carry a walking cane with a real heavy ornament on the top of it.* A good well made one, made from hardwood costs around fifty (50)* Dollars.* They are also called walking sticks.* Mine has a solid brass knob on the top of it.* If used properly it is lethal.*
