If you're asking were early settlers Christians, then I'd have to say yes. Considering they were escaping religious persecution in merry ole' England, it only makes sense to assume that Christianity was a very integral part of America's humble beginnings. No doubt someone will mention the Treaty of Tripoli, but the parts they're leaving out is that the author of that treaty was not speaking for the American people, and also that it was written to placate the muslims they were dealing with and had nothing to do with America being a Christian nation.

Well yes to a certain extent it Chritianity in and of itself is apart of our heritage or we would not celebrate X-mas or Easter or Palm Sunday. We do so I guess it is, I also think that forcing Christianity on others is apart of American Heritage. As the whites did to us blacks and native americans. As much as I believe in the a lot of the teachings of the bible, I do not call myself a "Christian" because their is much I disagree with as the bible has been changed so many times.

Since America has always been the Melting Pot of persecuted peoples, God is a part of the American Heritage, not just one type of religion.

Of course. All the founding fathers were faithful Christians. God is inherent in the Consitiution. To be a good citizen of this world and the next, you must be a Christian. America is Christian. To urge any other philosophy is satanic. Americans are open minded, but not stupid.

NO, Christianity(and all it entails) is a gift God gives to us, we do not inherit it by being American. Being American does make embracing and sharing God easier. I do however think that Christianity plays a vital role in American History and culture.

Maybe the country WAS founded by Christians - so what? It was also founded by white men, a lot of them slave owners. Does that mean we have a "white heritage," that we should all own slaves, or that women should go back to having no rights?

I think it was a part of the culture from the time of the colonies till the 1960's....not that it was THE culture...atheism was not part of our heritage, nor was islam...Christianity in one form or another was...

Today I really doubt that it is part of the culture enough to be said it is part of our heritage now...
