i actually heard it from a good source that wearing glasses can make you dependent on them, making your eyesight worse. I am questioning this "mith" because while my sister and i both wear glasses, only she dutifully wore them each and every day, yet... her eyesight got worse while mine stayed the same.

I'd like to know who this "good source" is because that is 100% false. Your eyes do not get worse because you wear glasses. And your eyes are going to change whether you wear the glasses or not. Its just some peoples' eyes change faster, some slower, and some seem to almost not change much at all. It varies from person to person and also mostly depends on genetics.

Wearing your glasses or contacts cannot alter the shape of your eye or cause it to change. The anatomical imperfections of your eye is what causes a refractive error. Wearing the corrective lenses will allow your eyes to see clearly without having to strain so much, which is what causes headaches and eye fatigue. After your eyes have been able to relax and focus without having to work so hard, and then you take your glasses off things seem blurrier by comparison because now they have to strain to focus again.

Wearing your glasses will not speed up the rate at which your eyes change, nor will it slow it down. Your eyes will change on their own time table no matter what. Your glasses WILL help you see better...that's all they do. They bend the light to correct for what is lost due to the fact that your eye is either too long, too short, or astigmatic.

So, it is NOT true that glasses make your eye sight worse and your "good source" is dead wrong. Sorry!

I don't know if it's lack of eye exercises or the glasses. I think looking at computer monitor for prolonged period, makes the problem worse.

It's a total myth.

Think about this logically. If, for example, wearing "minus" lenses (for nearsightedness) made you MORE nearsighted, then it would be possible to "cure" farsightedness using minus lenses. But it isn't.

There may be a grain of truth to it. Experiments with animals have demonstrated that it is possible to induce nearsightedness.

well if you're wearing glasses for no reason, even if you have good eyesight without glasses, then yes you're making it worse.
