So MOST of you are saying cleft repair is a sin..You all are kidding me, right? So being shunned, not being able to suck, problems with eating, talking, constant infections because "god" (notice NOT in capital letters) made them that way? So what about the 3 month old child that just died because of failure to thrive because they didn't know how to feed her? They would prop her up with a bottle, cleft babies can't suck..To the people saying that having surgery for a cleft would be a sin, you're telling me that you would NOT do what is in the best interest for your child then? Are you out of your mind?? If you all want to say, "God made them this way" then what about the hands that you would think "God" gave the surgeons to help these kids out..C'mon people!!

1 and 3

I wouldn't say any of them are a sin unless a person does it knowing/believing that it is wrong. Conscience is everything... if you go against your own conscience, you hurt yourself spiritually... this is sin.

See Rom. 14: 23 - http://scriptures.lds.org/en/rom/14/23#23
& Articles of Faith 1:11 - http://scriptures.lds.org/en/a_of_f/1/11#11

However, I believe that 1 and 3 would be wrong (except when damage was already done... eg after masectomy or in cases of ambiguous gender), because I believe that gender is an eternal spiritual attribute (not just a physical one) and I believe in loving myself, even though I have small breasts, so there. (And how can I breastfeed my children if I have implants?)

I would never intentionally harm myself.

Cleft lip repair is a medical necessity, as the child cannot eat properly without it being repaired. Also, it would cause emotional harm to a child/person to have a disfigurement like that.

BTW: Although it might make me cringe to think of someone hurting themselves like that (for a non-medical reason), I wouldn't judge someone for doing 1 & 3. People live by their consciences... If we realise later that we have made a mistake, that's okay. This is why Jesus paid the price for our sins... so that we could live freely, true to ourselves... but still discover and grow, through experience.

Depends on the person and the reason.
1)For a hermaphrodyte or for someone that is GENETICALLY a man but has a woman's external organs or vice versa it is not a sin
2)This is usually medically necessary for safety reasons (infections, choking hazards, eating, etc)
3)If done for vanity only, then possibly a sin...why would you want plastic sacs of goo in your chest anyway?

None of the above. Sin is a transgression against a common morality. Since all of these surgeries are common and are accepted by the vast majority of people in our society, none is a transgression against our common morality.

I would think all of the above.
Doing any one of theses surgeries is saying, "I am not happy with the way God made me, therefore I will play God and make the changes desired."
