If you've watched nature shows on migrating geese, you know that they fly in a V formation, and trade off in the front of the V because it is more efficient for the entire flock. Can anyone tell me why one leg of the V is longer than the other? 10 pts to the first correct answer.

An old friend got me with this years ago. One leg is longer because it has more geese on it.......

One side of a "V" formation of Geese flying is usually longer than the other because wind resistance is much lower on the longer side than on the "shorter" side of the formation.....

Flying in a V formation allows the Geese to fly with less wind resistance/draft and allows them to travel up to 70% further than they would normally be able to fly otherwise....

When they trade off the lead postion, the longer line eventually equals out to the shorter line as they trade?
