Because Christians and most people have been taught an incorrect meaning of what "chosen" means, when it refers to the Jews. The Church has taught that being "chosen" means that Jews think they are better than everyone else, and that God says that.
In fact, that is not what Jews believe at all. Being "chosen" means to Jews being chosen to teach the Torah to the world, to bring morals, ethics, and knowledge to the world through the Torah. This has meant thousands of years of persecution, murder, and torture, and even forced conversions by Christians. So this being "chosen" is not something special to Jews it just means being chosen to teach, and it also means that when this happens, Jews will be killed for doing that very thing. So the Jews see themselves more as the servants of mankind, the janitors, not some superior better than everyone else kind of thing.
Christians also believe that Judaism was superceded by Christianity and that all Jews will, in the end, come to believe in their man-god Jesus, and thus will end up being Christians anyway.

Jews are NOT a race. The only people who say this are non-jews and racists. The idea that jews are a race comes from Nazi-Germany where they not only made this inaccurate distinction but went a step further and declared that this "jewish race" was inferior.
Race is a genetic distinction, and refers to people with a shared ancestory AND shared genetic traits. Even though many jews do share a common ancestory, a common ancestory is NOT required to be jewish, and you or anyone else can convert to judaism. It must be remembered that many jewish prophets were either converts or descended from them.
Some Christians think jews are the choosen people, some don't - and even some jews don't think we're the choosen people (look up reconstructionist judaism). The idea of the "choosen people" in judaism simply means that a certain people (the jewish people) have choosen to keep a certain covenant (the Torah..the Old Testament, to christians) with God. Being "choosen" doesn't get you bonus points with God according to judaic philosophy - in other words, goyim (gentiles) and jews are equal.
The reason some christians believe jews are the choosen the people is because it says so in the Torah (old testament), which christians hijacked and attached their new testament too.

The Jews were chosen to be teachers concerning God. God expects the Jews to fulfill this mission and I believe that someday they will.

Because they ARE God's chosen people. But Christians have been grafted into the promises that God made to Abraham. Jews are no different than Christians.

Because the Christians know what the Jews were really chosen for. Chosen to be the living breathing penance for the sins of humanity. Consider the most persecuted people/group of people through History...the Jews. Of course they also forget the little perk that God (assuming there is one) threw into the deal...When it's all ending the Jews will ascend FIRST to keep the pearly gates open...PEACE & HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

In a sense, all Christians ARE Jews under the new covenant of Christ--the Jews brought us salvation, Jesus is a Jew. End of sermon.

Biblically speaking, Jews are the chosen people of GOD because salvation came from them.
John 4:22 Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.
Biblically speaking too, we can be Jew but not in the flesh but in the spirit.
Romans 2:29 But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.

To provide The Way for mankind to return to Him, God began the people known as Jews. From One Called Abraham... He gave them The Law and instruction in how to come to Him. Any one not of the line of Abraham who wanted to come to God had to come in The Way that was given to the decendents of Abraham... they had to become Jews... The Jews turned from God many times in the next 2000 yrs... finaly God gave them one last chance... they again rejected Him... so The Church(not the roman catholic) was commissioned by God with Jesus The Christ as The Head... now only those of The Church will enter Heaven... this is mankinds last chance... come to God in The Way He prescribes... or be eternaly seperated from Him... even the Jews must come through The Church now... no other chance will be given... next time He comes it will be the begining of The End for this Earth and mortal existance.

good point, the early church WAS Jewish. Jesus was Jewish and so where all of the apostles. Jesus was a respected Rabbi as only rabbis spoke in the 'Jewish meeting places'. His teachings were VERY Hassidic (the transformation on the mount) as Jesus said 'you should keep the commandments (i.e. mitzvot) even more strictly than the teachers of the Torah (i.e. pharasies)' 'until the end of days not a jot or tittle will vanish from the Torah'. In response to the second half of your question many 'Christians' ARE Jewish look up "messianic Judaism"
most christians are not jewish because they either don't want the extra responsibility of 613 mitzvot (why not just keep 6?) or they never thought about it.
