I was recently outside with my cat when a bald eagle swooped out of the sky and attacked it! Lucky for Panzer(the cat) he only suffered a broken tail and leg. Is it illegal for me to kill an eagle if it attacks my pets?

The eagle was taken off the endangered species list in 1994.

It is still a protected species, & if you are caught, you will do jail time.

That's terrible that it attacked your cat. I can't believe it. I guess they are just the right size for the eagle to view as a target.
If you live in the United States it is illegal. I believe that they were recently taken off of the endangered species list so the laws may be a bit more relaxed, but if you kill an eagle and anyone finds out there are probably still harsh consequences.

Yes it is. They are a protected species. When I lived in Nogales, we had an eagle swoop down and just missed our cat ! Never saw anything like that ! Cat took off and disappeared for a couple days.
After that, every time it went outside, it would hesitate looking around the sky.

Yes its against the law. Shoot eagle= go to jail.
I live in Alaska and have seen pet dogs and cats carried away by eagles. Eagles eat small critters thats what they do. Killing an eagle is a BIG no no.
And by the way its illegal to even have an eagle feather only native Americans can.

And no Fish and Game will not remove the eagle for you, despite what others have said. You just have to keep kitty inside. My cat has avoided the thousands of eagles here for 4 years now. But one day his number may be up! Hope not!

Yes because even though it might of been taken off the endangered species list, it is still the nation's symbol. I think there is even a pretty lengthy sentence if you do kill one on purpose.

Bald Eaglres are a Federally protected species......So YES it's illegal to kill ANY Bald Eagle.....
ENDANGERED SPECIES..No longer..But still Federally Protected from hunting and harming......

It's a federally protected species of bird and it's a federal crime to kill one.

Yes, the American Bald Eagle is considered endangered. You should be lucky that you saw one. I would call the department of fish and wildlife if you want to get ride of it. I am sure they can help you out. Just don't kill it.

No, its in the endangered species list and bald eagles dont hang around ground level, they are like hawks, live in the high rise or canapies of trees. Its a federal offense. Fees and jail time.
