I am a big fan of Isaiah, Ezekiel, and Moroni. Their teachings center on Jesus so much , from both before and after His life, and most of all they emphasize Love and integrity in their messages. I could go on for hours about each of them...

But to chose a favorite from among the three, don't know.

And then there is President HInkley... who is the best. How can you choose a favorite among the greatest men to walk the earth. How can you choose a favorite message among all of those that testify of Christ?

Prophets are so vital to our salvation. The Earth has been here a very long time. God established his first Church with Adam leading it. So much has changed in the world since then, But His truths have not. Throughout time, we can see how the Lord has given us additional instructions through his prophets. Sometimes it is clarification of the things he already gave us. For example- the 10 commandments were given to Moses as a guide for all people to follow. Before the ten commandments were revealed to Moses was Murder wrong? Of course it was. Cain was severely punished for Murdering Abel. The 10 commandments simply clarified things. The Lord knew, that is what His people needed so He gave them instructions through his prophet. The ten commandments were nothing new really. They just put everyone back on track, well those who wanted to be on track.

I think that is the purpose the Prophet serves. Does President Hinkley tell us anything we don't already know? Not really. He just reminds us of what we should be doing, how we should be behaving. What does he tell us to do? Be kind to others, Go to the Temple, Know who you are and what you believe, Stand for Something, Love your spouse, Respect your Spouse, Live a Christ-like life, etc... None of these things are new, We just need to be reminded. The world is full of distractions, and it is easy to follow those distractions (some good, some bad). It is easy to get off track and follow paths that are unimportant and destructive. When we listen to the Prophet, then we can stay on the right path- or get back on it. He has been Called of God to speak for Him. By listening to the prophet we are listening to God. We can know that his Laws are still relevant. As time goes on and people turn towards science for answers, we start hearing things that make sense many times but aren't completely the truth, Zero population, Global Warming, Evolution, feminism, Cloning etc... These things seem to have merit, and make sense- but if we listen to the prophet, we will know where the Lord stands and we can weed out the truth from the fiction.

As for what would have happened without Prophets, well just look around at the world, at those who are wandering lost without a prophet. Those who either choose not to listen to the prophet, or don't know that he is a prophet. Look at the world- it is not hard to see the dangers of not following the words of the Prophet.

I hope my rambling makes sense, these forums are always hard to discuss things in.

Edit**
I guess my Favorite would have to be President Hinkley. I was a child when Spencer W. Kimball died, and really President Hinkley is all I have known. I love the way he teaches us and I love his sense of humor. He is such a kind gentle man, but there is no doubt that he is a Man of God. And when he calls us to repentance he is clear and concise, but gentle and loving. I will miss him when he is gone.

Well without them God would not have a mouthpiece here on earth. Amos 3:7 says it pretty well. I will try and quote it and see how close I come "Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but He reavealeth His secrets unto His servants the prophets. In modern day I have always been a big fan of President Hinckley. I love the prophet Joseph Smith and strong he was to accomplish so much against so much adversity. My favorite from the BoM is Alma the younger. I relate to him pretty well. But I also love the faith of Lehi and Nephi in the book Helaman and 3rd Nephi. The fact that they received revelations daily gives me a righteousness and a virtue to strive for. In the bible I would have to go with John the revelator. He seems to say quite a bit that spirit in it that touches my soul.

Prophets are VERY important.
My favorite? ... IDK, that's a hard one, there are so many and I have such admiration and respect for each of them. I love our current prophet, Gordon B. Hinckley. I also loved Howard W. Hunter. Those are the only two I've "seen in action" so to speak since converting. President Benson was already too ill to speak in General Conference when I joined the church. ... Without forgetting about Joseph, Brigham, Nephi, Moroni, Abinadi, Alma, Mormon, Noah, Malachi, Moses, Jeremiah, Isaiah, and SO many others, I guess my favorite was Adam. If it weren't for him we wouldn't be here. I think about what great leadership and love it must have taken for him to take the forbidden fruit and know what must unavoidably come to pass because of it, and how necessary it was. And then years later to find that his own son was killed, murdered, and that it was his own son that did it. How heartbreaking, and yet he must have been taught just how necessary and vital all of the "firsts" were. The first sacrifice, the first death, the first birth, the first marriage, the first crop, the first in everything was his to witness. Without him we wouldn't be here, and so neither would any of the other prophets who followed him.

1)very
2) Hunter...I was one of those at the Marriott Center with the Bomber. That was when I knew he was a true man of God and a prophet.
3) Without that experience, I would still believe...but there would have always been that little 1% or 1% of doubt. Because of that experience...there is no doubt that all of them from Joseph Smith Jr. to Pres. Hinckley are all prophets of God.

Prophets are very important. They lead us in a way we can relate to. They speak to us about God on our level. That draws us closer to Heavenly Father. I can't say I have a favorite. But I have read the general conference(never been) many times. It has answered questions I'd been pondering @ that very time. God knows what we need, when we need it. He always answers our prayers.

Boy it is hard to say. Historically speaking, not many people were very convinced. That is to say it seems they didn't make much difference. On the other hand, YAHOSHUA died for you, so if some prophet said something to make a difference in one life (even yours) then it wasn't in vain.

A prophet's significance is only to the degree of their submission to speak what GOD wills. That would make JESUS ofcoarse, the greatest, and my favorite prophet.

my favorite prophet of the Old Testament was Ezekiel because God told him to shave all of the hair from his head. he made it cool to be bald. I pray that I am as quick to hear and do the will of God. NES
