He is just a friend who very much wants to be more, but I have explained to him repeatedly that its not going to happen.
Someone told me that he may be giving me diamond earrings! I can't accept them, can I? That's too much! And wouldn't it come with expectations? He already makes me feel awkward around him even though I enjoy his company as a friend. This has me very concerned.

Obviously you haven't told him very clearly. If he doesn't get it or refuses to get it, then I would suggest that you don't be friends.

As for the expensive gift: I would return it, because it probably does come with expectations. If you feel awkward around him now, think about what he may think if you except his gift. He may think that you are willing to want more in the relationship. Which is exactly what you want to avoid happening.

No, you can't accept an expensive gift from someone who is just a friend, especially if you feel he may expect a relationship to develop afterward. Some may tell you that you should just go ahead and take the earrings, but don't buy it! If he tries to give you the earrings, tell him you appreciate the thought, but that you can't possibly accept them. Don't make excuses and don't start a back-and-forth conversation about why you can't. Just repeat the same reason.

Personally, I like to buy stuff for ppl. I just like the feeling of giving around xmas. ....and Im in the exact same situation, I am crazy about this girl who doesnt feel the same, and yes Im still getting her something. I dont expect anything though, except hope that in time she'll want more of this than she does now. Not all guys are pigs, he may just genuinely want to give you a gift.....then again...

If you do not have feelings for this guy, you should not accept this gift. If you accept it, you are giving him permission to pursue you even further.

If he is okay with you not being with him, and he just feels like blowing some money on a friend, then by all means go for it. But make it clear that you are not interested in him.
