After last Friday’s doctoral thesis, I figured I’d keep it short and sweet for a Monday. My selection is going to be QueenAdreena. This is the band with two former members from Daisy Chainsaw. I forgot all about these guys since they get virtually no press stateside. I didn’t realize they came out with an album in 2005 and have another slated for next year. Imagine Courtney Love if she actually had talent.

Sookie - It doesn't necessarily have to be a newer band although that would be more likely.

Beatle fanatic - I was really starting to like Audioslave as well. They could have been better than Soundgarden.

Mike – The top ten is rarified earth for sure. I’ll have to look those two bands up. In the meantime, KatieJane Garside has me saying, “who is Susanna Hoffs?”

MachPen*´`*•.¸¸ - Jeez, once you find all these bands (i.e. Mommy & Daddy), they seem to be breaking up. You must be cursing them. :)

BC - I had a strong feeling you'd love this band. They're classified under the goth/industrial label although they sound nothing like The Sisters of Mercy.

Two new bands that I just picked up on that maintain that 80s style without all the pomp and hairspray....
Poets & Pornstars
Endeverafter
Both are in heavy rotation right now, and while I don't see them cracking the top 10 (that's a tough spot to get into), I could see them earning some extra playing time down the stretch run towards the play offs.
NP: "Heart Failure" - Sixx:A.M.
Edit: Enquiring minds.... let's just say that I'm activating Google images now.

Rise Against. Call them emo, sellouts, whatever you want. But the fact is that they're all for animal rights and all that, which I'm totally into. And they're music is somewhat mixed with melodic hardcore influenced by Anti-Flag. Just too damn catchy.
Boris. A relatively unknown band in the states, they're a japanese stoner-metal type band, and I just can't seem to get enough. Similar to wolfmother, I guess. But that's a bit of a stretch.
Mindless Self Indulgence. They've already been mentioned here, but with the punk-meets-techno beats, you just can't seem to get them out of your head (and you know you like having them stuck too.)

As far as new(er) bands go, it's hard to say. It's not often you find a band who can crack their way into your top 10, especially when you like as many artists as I do. I really loved the debut from 10 Years...very Perfect Circle-esque. I'm anxious to see what they do on their new album next year. I've also been very keen on listening to Lacuna Coil these past couple years. The most recent band to crack my top 10 was HIM about 4 years ago.

Awesome song by QueenAdreena, I'll have to look into their music more. This is the first I heard of them.
I think Silversun Pickups is on their way to my top 10. I guess they probably stand at 15 or so right now, but if they release another album as good as the first... they might just make it to my top 10.

There's two out there are really kicking it for me right now, Pelican, an instrumental stoner rock band out of Chicago, and Envy, a post-rock/screamo band from Japan. I can't get enough from either band right now, especially Envy which gives me chills every time I hear them.
Edit: I'll agree with Know? as well, Boris is putting out some sweet sounds as well.

I'd have to go with relative newcomers on the Irish indie scene, Fight Like Apes. They've yet to release a full length album, but the two EP's they brought out have both been fantastic, full of perfectly crafted pop songs. I'll reserve judgement on whether or not they make it into my top ten until their debut album comes out.

There is a group called Tapes N Tapes that I could see doing it with a couple more, and progressively better releases. Same thing with Apollo Sunshine (actually probably moreso Apollo Sunshine). Both of them have really great, though slightly hit and miss releases, but the albums at their peaks really have a ton of potential.

Hi Godsmack. Friends is very good with me! I'm glad you read that. I'm sorry for my part. I have a neice that I could see asking something like that and I tend to get a bit defensive. Thanks.

Ben Harper is about to be my next inductee. I've been hearing him a lot on WRNR (http://www.wrnr.com) these past few days. I'd heard him some before, but this song, I don't know what it's called, it goes like "don't let it take the fight out of you..." but it's fabulous. I'd say he's at least in my top 25 at this point.
