As a christian there are some thing that we must stay away from. However it is not up to me to tell you what to watch. Your conscience will guide you along with the help of the holy spirit. The brothers and sisters job is to accept you for who you are and show you love. They will also help you by setting Godly examples.
If you think that watching soaps is corrupting you, you should stop watching them

Yes,it can be but almost everything on TV or in the movies has objectionable content. So if you are obsessive about soaps then that's wrong if you can miss some and not be upset, then you have higher priorities in your life.No one is perfect and we cannot judge the heart by TV viewing. You need to find a way to not be upset by this, judge not least you be judged.Just forgive your mom for her weakness. It has nothing to do with being a christian.Goodness comes from the heart, the mind only thinks its good. Merry Christmas!

The news is also full of these same things, only worse...it's real people. Jokes aside, The Bible instructs us to guard our eyes and as Christians we should also be mindful of how we spend our time. If you get in 2 hours of TV and on-line time, but spend no time in prayer or reading your bible, you've got a problem brewing. We dealt with this in my family as well. My grandmother is an avid fan of the soaps and the court shows, but she was spending almost no time with God. And trust me, it showed in her behavior. she wasn't doing what her soap opera actors were doing, but she was not exhibiting as much fruit of the Spirit as normal. She cut back on her TV and telephone time and purposely spent more time in prayer and in the word.

That said, don't change what you believe for yourself. If this is a conviction that the Holy Spirit has given you for yourself, don't change. If you are convinced that it's wrong for you, then by all means don't watch them. But with others, one of the most effective ways to show them is to show them how it affects their walk with Christ. I use that with my friends who like to overindulge in lots of other areas as well.

The Apostle Paul indicated that what is wrong for one may be okay for another. It is important to "work out your own salvation with fear and trembling." That's not to say to be stressed, nervous, or paranoid about what is right or wrong for you, but to take the issue seriously, for it is a matter of eternal importance for you. God is not eager to bludgeon you for mistakes, but to draw you with his great love. Prayer, Bible study, and your level of comfort (the inner witness) will help you to decide if any practice is something that you need to spend time and energy pursuing.
I stopped watching soaps because of the rampant themes of fornication, adultery, self-centeredness, and back-stabbing, as well as occasional witchcraft, occult, or vampire story lines. I found nothing in soap operas to enhance my walk with God or to strengthen me spiritually, and so I choose to use my time and efforts in pursuits that aid in my spiritual growth or serve God or mankind.
I hope that this will be helpful to you, as you grow in grace.

Colossians 3:5-11

Deaden, therefore, YOUR body members that are upon the earth as respects fornication, uncleanness, sexual appetite, hurtful desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.  On account of those things the wrath of God is coming.  In those very things YOU, too, once walked when YOU used to live in them.  But now really put them all away from YOU, wrath, anger, badness, abusive speech, and obscene talk out of YOUR mouth.  Do not be lying to one another. Strip off the old personality with its practices,  and clothe yourselves with the new [personality], which through accurate knowledge is being made new according to the image of the One who created it,  where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, foreigner, Scyth′i·an, slave, freeman, but Christ is all things and in all.

Phillipians 4:8

Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are of serious concern, whatever things are righteous, whatever things are chaste, whatever things are lovable, whatever things are well spoken of, whatever virtue there is and whatever praiseworthy thing there is, continue considering these things.

if you feel it as wrong, wrong enough to inquire people in this forum, then it is a good indication that God doesn't want you yourself watching it.

that isn't to say that soaps are sinful... but if you feel it is, rid yourself of it lest it cause you to stumble.

* don't judge people too harshly, particularly christians as hypocrites... after all we were all sinful people without Jesus Christ at some point. and all Christians are growing and battling with sin. i doubt there is one person on this earth today who couldn't have been called an hypocrite at some point in their life.

If you are that weak minded that to watch a soap is going to adversely influence you then you deserve to be a christian. We atheists can watch them without being influenced. We can look at the beauty of the naked body and not be lustfully seduced but to see the beauty of the body for what it is.

I think that what you watch on TV and read does effect you to a point. But I don't think that people should limit them self's when you watch. There is lots of it crap out there. But there is some rough diamonds there that don't rot your brain into Swiss cheese. People shouldn't believe everything that they see on TV.

The fact that you ask the question is telling. You are already watching them, right ? So, you must think it's okay. Why ask.
