Matthew 14:23 -- And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone.

John 6:15 -- When Jesus therefore perceived that they would come and take him by force, to make him a king, he departed again into a mountain himself alone.

He spent many hours alone in prayer to His Father. He was FILLED with the Holy Spirit as no other -- before or since! He was intimately familiar with the Word because He IS the Word and He knew all too well what was written of Him IN the Word.

Hebrews 10:4 For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins. 5 Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but A BODY HAST THOU PREPARED ME: 6 In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure. 7 Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.

Isaiah 9:6 -- For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and HIS NAME SHALL BE CALLED WONDERFUL, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. (!)

I think that the holy spirit told him his path in life. He also wanted to follow what the prophecies said about him.If he did not then less people would have believed in salvation. But normal people like us. Do not always a straight path in life. I don't believe in destiny or fate you make your own future.

Because he was the word. IN the beginning was the word. And the word was with God and the word was God....

And the word was made flesh...

Since Jesus was the word in flesh and came to earth to fulfill the promise, he already knew the path before arriving on earth.

Jesus knew his path even before he came to earth. Remember, he was the firstborn of all creation. He was there when Satan rebelled. He'd watched man's fall and recognized their need for redemption.
