Although there may be some differences in individual churches - there are many types of "Baptist" churches - it usually goes like this:
The person and the one who is baptizing them (like the pastor) stand together in the water - a baptismal tank or a stream or a swimming pool, etc.. The pastor might ask the person a couple of questions like:
Do you believe in Jesus Christ as your Savior?
Have you asked forgiveness for your sins... etc
(The congregation or crowd act as witnesses to the person's confession of faith)
Then the pastor might pray a prayer and then say something like:
upon profession of your faith in Jesus Christ, I now baptize you in the name of the father and of the son and of the holy ghost. Amen.
And the pastor dunks the person - immerses the person in water and then helps them back to their feet.
people might then applaud, sing a song, etc.
That's about it.
god bless

Much ado about nothing. They don't know why they baptize. And they make people talk about why they are doing it. If it wasn't so sad, it would be funny. You can't be a member without baptism, that's why most of them do it, they don't have a clue otherwise. (Been to my share of Northern and Southern Baptist baptisms.)

Most likely not even the Pope was ever baptised.
Sprinkling a few drops of water is not baptism.

sing some hymns. Talk about what it means. Read the story maybe. Then the preacher takes into the pool and says" you see that dime at the bottom?" you say "no"
"well you will"
then everybody is happy
you change clothes and shake everybodys hand
then we eat
Hey by the way. We do know why we do it. Its a symbol that we are saved from our sins, the old sinful nature is dead and buried, we arise into a new christian life.

A minister puts on a robe, stands in a big bathtub in front of the church, you put on a robe usually, get in the big bathtub with him, maybe say a few words, he says a few words, dunks your head under the water, and voila.
