My girlfriend is in the military- how bad is it?

I am dating a woman who just became an officer in the military. She will have to go away to school for a few months. She also has various trainings/exercises where she is away. I guess I just wanted to know from those who have experienced it- how bad is this whole situation. I love and trust her dearly, but also know that she is a very pretty woman and I guess I assume that military men would attempt to proposition her, etc. She does admit that while she was serving in Iraq a few years back (for 13 months) she cheated on her then boyfriend- she claims she learned her lesson about sleeping with "a person she also has to work with" and says there is no way she would ever do it again. She also says that she thinks she did it because the relationship with the then-boyfriend was pretty much dead anyways and being in a war zone and facing death on a daily basis kind of was rough on her. So with all that- can anyone in the military or dealing with a military girlfriend give advice?

If you love her, stick with her. All of the statements about the "bad military" are untrue....... The military looks poorly on adultery, and fratnerization and people are punished for it....if it happens. However, if you are questioning your love for her by asking questions on yahoo maybe it is not meant to be and you should look elsewhere.

It is very difficult to be a military spouse, especially for a male. You actually become part of the unit and, as an officer's spouse will be expected to be the sounding board for many of the other Soldiers spouses in the unit.....it is very honorable, but challenging. If you are not up for that then get out now.

She will not be hit on by everyone in the unit and rapes are not common like people are saying here...not saying that it doesn't happen, but I am saying that it is not any more common than in the general public. If she loves you, she will resist the temptations. Just because she cheated once, doesn't mean that she will do it again......she was growing up and probably in a stressful situation. Bottom line....if you love her, stick by her....for she is doing something very honorable and difficult.

That's a bad situation man. The guys in the military will be hitting on her non-stop and you know we're not talking about bad looking guys at all.
If she gets deployed to Iraq again, forget it! There's no *** over there but the female GI's and not to mention there are a lot of rapes going on there due to shortage of women. You just don't hear about it.

First, rape in the millitary is a common affair, or at least more common in civilian life, and the military response is often lacking - so at least be prepared for something of the nature.

but why be squeemish about her getting some? Its not like she's falling in love with these guys. ANd like you said, she is facing death. sometimes people just need to get laid in circumstances like that. men have done it since time immemorial, mainly with war created prostitutes. at least she's doing it with fellow g.i.s

and think about the service she is doing for the moralle of our troops on the front line . .. .

be a little patriotic and support the troops - not your need to control your gf's body
