I hear a clinic near me is in dire need of egg donors. One clinic even called me to talk about it. I have two friends that have donated their eggs, but to be honest, I think they did it for the money. I don't need to do it for the money (however, it's a nice incentive), but I would like to know more about what Christians say about this? I want to help if there are women out there that really need it, but I just wonder what draw backs I should think about before I consider doing it. How much of my DNA is really distributed to a baby in this way? What characteristics of mine could the baby pick up? If anyone has any information on this, thoughts, beliefs, background knowledge, Bible references (doubt it, but...), just anything that would help me with my decision, please let me know. Serious answers only please.

Why not give the gift of life to a couple who may have trouble conceiving a child of there own. Don't make religion a part of this; do it because you want to and you think its right, not what someone else thinks. There are real people out there who would give anything to become parents and this is a great way of helping them achieve their goal.

As for DNA, its standard 50% like in natural conception. Your egg stays complete and will be fertilized with sperm (most likely from the father to be or a donor).

I don't know if there are any Bible refrences on the this topic. If there are I'm not aware of them. But I do know that if you donate eggs then its just like if the eggs got fertilized inside of you gene wise. So it could have any amount of similar characteristics it all depends just like in any other pregnancy. The only thing I would be worried about is the fact that we all only have so many eggs so if you do donate theres that many less that you have. I'm not saying thats a reason to not do it just something to consider if you haven't already. good luck either way.

"How much of my DNA is really distributed to a baby in this way?"

50%.

"What characteristics of mine could the baby pick up?"

Anything that can be passed on genetically. Hair color, eye color, height, skin color, predisposition to certain diseases, blood type.

Pluses - you're helping a couple who really wants to have a child but who can't for whatever reason.

Minuses - it's time consuming and the harvest process can be uncomfortable bordering on painful, from what I understand.

Personally I think a very kind and caring thing to do for someone. A baby's DNA would contain half from you and half from the father. The baby babies characteristics would depend on which genes you contributed in your eggs.

In the Old Testament a woman could have a child by her maid servant. I would think it would be a great way to give the BEST gift ever to a childless couple..Your eggs will just dissolve if not fertilized..Why waste what could give such joy!

If I were you, I would want to know exactly how egg danation would affect your fertility and any possibilty of health problems for you years later after donating. I would not want to be taking any drugs to provoke ovulation. Don't rush inot anything with out weighing all the pros and cons. Myself I would NOT donate.

None. The egg cell's dna is removed then the other person's dna is inserted.
