If you were in attendance at a national convention for atheists and suddenly a terrorist group stormed in wielding guns and machettis demanding that you deny atheism or else you would face being beheaded what would you do?

Atheism ain't a religion. We just have to say temporarily that we believe in their god and just live our lives. It doesn't hurt to do that you know. We don't have this "atheism-faith" thing.

Call the police on my cell phone. Then grab a fire extinguisher and brain the nearest religionist terrorist (and they all belong to religions, don't they?). After which I'd probably get killed. Oh, well.

Since most religionists are lying to themselves anyway, I might also say anything they wanted to hear, in order to save my own skin. Just because I say it doesn't mean I have to believe it. That worked back when I went to Catholic school.

I wonder what the hell I was doing attending a national atheism conference...

Not really our cup of tea overall (if I can make a generalization about us not liking to be able to be generalized).

I would deny and embrace Allah, Shiva, Jesus, Zeus, and Odin if it meant my family still had a wife and mother later.

This is of course assuming that fighting back and kicking some machete weilding butt wouldn't work.

I would loudly and convincingly deny atheism.

What do I care? I don't have some ornery, judgemental spirit who's gonna fry me for blasphemy.

Edit: As a matter of fact, I'll deny atheism right now, for $20. Any takers?

No takers? Come on, for an extra $20 I'll PROVE god exists. (Disclaimer: proof will only be convincing to Believers)

Deny atheism? Gladly. What does it matter to me if I do it? If it means imminent demise for telling the truth, that is akin to suicide, so lying is the most opportune way out of the situation.

Why is it that people come up with this kind of question targeted at atheists? I see questions here all the time to the tune of, "Atheists : would you rather be brutally raped and murdered or go to church this Sunday". Is this the mindset of most believers?

To answer your question, I would do whatever I needed to in order to survive. Anyone who says they would do differently is either clinically insane or a liar.

Atheism is a concept...not a faith. An atheist would have no problem lying to save themselves as a lie would not offend their belief system.

Whatever they told me to say.

Saying something under duress is meaningless. Forcing me to say I believe in God, Allah, Jehovah, Zeus, Odin, Osiris, whatever does not alter what I think and what I consider to be true.

I would say whatever they wanted me to say, while I tried to work out how to get hold of one of the machine guns and shoot the bastards.

I would do whatever I needed to do to keep the maximum number of people alive. Preferably including myself.

Well first, I'm usually armed. So the odds are that there would have been a bit of a problem before we got to that point.

But I don't have a problem with lying about it. It ain't like I'm going to offend my tyrannical god or anything.
