Ath(ei)sm only requires a belief in the lack or lack of belief in a deity. Nihilism is the claim to believe nothing, which is impossible.

Nihilism means not believing in anything objective.
Atheism means lack of belief in god(s).

Nihilism is the belief that nothing has an intrinsic purpose, meaning, or value.
Atheists can be nihilists, but an atheists may also believe that everything has a purpose (ie Buddhism).

Nihilists believe in nothing. Atheists don't believe in god.
Deists are nihilists because because they believe in that which does not exist. If something is something, it exists. It has identity. If something has no identity, it doesn't exist. God has no identity. It does not exist.
Q. What does not exist?
A. Nothing.
Deists believe in that which does not exist, ie. nothing, ergo deists are nihilist.
