Hello, Barney...:

That is true for many people, but there are some waiting for evidence. And these will serve God unflinchingly when He reveals Himself to them.

I know, because I was one. And the Bible code, sealed for our time, helped establish my faiath. See www.abiblecode.com

Shalom

Which part? I definitely don't want to obey the OT laws because I can't afford a slave and really can't afford to check out my thrift store clothing to ensure that the fibers aren't mixed.

NT - I like the law Jesus laid down: "Do unto others...."

Paul - no thanks.

I believe the Bible is fiction (and I still believe that and I'm reading it now again) because it's just.... too ridiculous. Do you believe the myths of the Greeks or Norse are real? Why not? Don't you believe that Hermes dashes around the world faster than you can see and Zeus could turn himself into a beam of sunlight? Or in Valkyries riding horses from the clouds to claim the honored dead from battle? Do you say that's unbelievable? I say the same about the Bible stories.

It's not because I didn't want to obey the Bible, I tried and discovered that I didn't believe in the deity and didn't want to - he's a bit too violent and contrary for me.

I'm glad your faith works for you and I hope that continues.

No.

I do not believe in the bible because every indication that I have points towards it being a work of fiction.

The Greek gods and their wishes are pretty well laid out in the Odyssey and the Iliad.

Do you choose not to believe those books are absolute truth because you don't want to obey Zeus?

Do you see how silly your argument is?

Show me the documentation of fact; proof, then I MAY consider all those wild stories. Hey, we all believed the White House stories 5 years ago without documentation (proof) and that is in the 21st century, and look what a mess we got into. BTW what is Santa Clause bringing you this year?

Nope. There is absolutely zero evidence for its truth.

If you define truth as the word of god, no need to continue this discussion. You win everything. Congratulations!

If you have the ability to see more than black and white, you are on a good path to enlightenment and continued growth in your life. You will never find the truth, that is, the ultimate question to life, the universe, and everything. However, you can live a happy life and enjoy the time in between birth and death.

True spirituality is finding harmony with one's self. Why would one look to external sources for true happiness and spiritual development?

I had a student a few years ago (Catholic school, folks, so don't freak) who told me in a moment of candor that he didn't want to believe in God because he was afraid God would have something in mind for him that he didn't want to do. I'm sure that's not the case for everyone, but obviously it is for some.

No, I don't believe in the bible because it is full of garbage like:

The sun revolves around the earth.
The earth is flat and stands on pillars.
Rabbits chew their cud.
The value of PI is exactly 3
Bats are birds.

No, it's just that there are so many other religions out there that make more sense to me. I follow the spiritual path that speaks to me. The Bible is not my path. If it is yours, then fine, but there are more choices out there than Christianity and Atheism.

Obviously, Diane, that's a juvenile attitude toward religion, as is the one the asker posits here.

Is it such a stretch to assume that adult atheists tend to hold their views out of rationalism and reasoned introspection?
