Some of the readers might remember me from yesterday, i posted a question that said my dog was sick. i couldnt take her to the vet because it was sunday and it was about 8:00pm and most bussinesses are closed at that time in chicago, so i just rubbed her try to make her feel better but she kept trying to walk around but couldnt even do that she just kept falling so i put a blanket over her hoping she would calm down until the morning when i took her to the vet. But when the morning came it was too late. she had already passed away....what is so strange is that i have another peckingnese that is much older then her and has been through much more then her, he even got his eye knocked out by another dog when the daycare let some dog half his size come near him. but my question really is what do you think happened to her. she had all her shots, i washed her, fed her everyday. what is so strange is she was acting just fine the day before please help me out.

My heart goes out to you. I can only imagine how frustrated you must feel. These are many reasons something like this could happen, from hereditary problems to eating something poisonous. Impossible to diagnose over the Internet.

So that this doesn't happen again, find a 24 hour emergency vet clinic nearby now before you need it. If my town of under 100,000 has one, I'm sure Chicago has many. Check the phone book, find one or more nearby and keep their number handy.

Sorry about what happened to your dog. Bozema is right though - there's no way anyone on here can really give you a clue what happened. If you can't pay for an autopsy I suggest phoning the dog's vet, someone who knows his medical history, with a detailed description of what happened, They will ask the relevant questions and may be able to point you in the right direction. From all you've said on here maybe it was something neurological like a stroke or seizures, or even a virus - vaccinations only protect against the most common killers of dogs. I could be way off base though, it really is impossible to say over the internet.

I do urge you to find out what the 24 hour vet cover in your area is though, for future reference - big city, there will be emergency cover, ask around vets.

Sorry about your loss. I lost both my 14 year old Dachshunds with in 3 week of each other 2 years ago and still miss them. To help ease the pain we immediately when out and got two new puppies.

there really is no answer - speak to your Vet

My Vet has an emergency number to call even in the middle of the night. I've call them at 8 pm on a sunday night before. Yes it cost more but my dogs are worth it.

Sorry, that's tough. I live in the Chicagoland area and there are a gazillion emergency vet clinics within driving distance which you might want to look up just in case you have another emergency. Again, sorry about your dog.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Only a vet doing a necropsy could tell you.

But I'm wondering - you are in the Chicago area - tons of emergency vet clinics there - there was no place to go?
