I'll give you some clarification, but I was interested in your initial reactions. The ad is for jewelry and each commercial shows the man giving the woman jewelry, she the of course is so grateful, she kisses him. (The kiss is an subliminal hint to sex) Exchanging sex for material goods IS prostitution. N0?

EDIT: should read "she THEN, of course, is so grateful, she kisses him"

Yeah, the ads immediately hit me that way.

I think, however, it's a matter of scale. LOTS of married couples work things on a tit-for-that basis. (YES I spelled it right, think a moment ....) Small beans, however, and the "pimp" is the salesman ringing up the sale.

Remember the much more expensive ads, especially the diamond cartel's campaigns of a few years ago. Now THAT was on a bigger scale. Get a big splashy rock, get a hot, splashy minor member of a royal family!

We just need to remember that "prostitutes" work for a living. "Courtesans" are now trophy wives.

Prostitution is distinguished by the fact that there is an agreement between the involved parties.

Your scenario is simply a gift followed by an expression of gratitude. If the woman said "I will have sex with you if you give me that necklace" and the guy agreed, then that would be prostitution.

no , but i find your reaction to the ad interesting. i personally gave up diamonds because i feel too guilty in knowing that many of the diamonds come from conflict zones. i would like to see more jewelry stores come to market with more ads for the other stones and create buz there. if attitudes changed, and diamonds were not associated with love, romance, tradition, then perhaps we would stop being the country to buys more diamonds than any other country in the world.

Kissing is not sex so your conclusion is incorrect. I personally think it is a beautiful, well presented and tasteful commercial and I don't like commercials.
You must have some problems in your life if you can twist a every day expression of love between two adults into a illegal act. Grow up or go to a doctor.

Hmmm, I have kissed lots of people that I have not had sex with, including my daughters and Mother. Besides, the ad is untrue. As proof, I submit Hersheys Kisses.

I agree- marry someone you love, not thier money! ALthough the state is somewhat to blame for making marraige a legal contract in the first place, rather than leaving it civil.

BTW- have you seen that god-awful commercial where the lady is looking at Christmas trees with her BF and the guy asks her, "This the one?" and she looks into her BF's gooey eyes and says, "This is the one..."

I almost threw up!

Marriage is prostitution. But it's the only form of it considered "valid" in most places.

I have no clue what you are talking about .. . Could you explain? I see a creative slogan, not . . . prostitution . . . ?
Add details or something.
