For dry skin you can get salmon oil and that will help it. You should also try getting a natural oatmeal shampoo, or just a natural shampoo. I've noticed when i take my dog in to be groomed and they don't use the shampoo i give them to use, he comes back with dry flaky skin.

Ok, honestly the only way to get RID of dandruff is a better diet. But, you can control dandruff and help alleviate the irritation by using a medicated shampoo or oatmeal shampoo.
I would really recommend you look into switching your dogs diet first though.
Merrick and Evanger (go to www.doglando.com/barkavenue) are really great foods, and within two-three weeks of the change you should notice the dandruff disappear. In addition, if you give your dog artificial or commercial grade treats and buiscuits, stay away from all that.
Dogswell (also available at www.doglando.com/barkavenue)_are great for treats. Merrick makes a whole line of sausage treats and chews for dogs as well.
As for shampoo, check out the medicated shampoo on the site. It is made by Tropiclean, smells great, and leaves the dogs feeling great.

There could be something wrong with his skin. Have the vet do a scraping. I had an old dog that i could never get his skin right. Turned out he had a non catching form of mange, caught from his mother. He was starved as a puppy and ended up with a reduced immune system. He could never fight off the mange mites like most dogs do and even if he was dipped, they came back. I stopped dipping him finally and just bathed him often because every bug in the world just loved his rotten ol' skin and he had major dandruff forever. Have a vet look him over before you buy a lot of stuff at the stores. Most of it is overpriced junk and will not cure anything. I ended up bathing him at least weekly in Dove dish soap. It kills fleas and didn't have any poisen in it and really soaps up nicely and the price is right.

Depends on the reason for the dandruff? It could be the diet or over bathing that dries the coat out. Or it could be hypothyroidism or other diseases that affect the coat. Also during the cold winter months, we use heating and this dries out the coat as well. Try a sensitive tea tree dog shampoo and add omega oils to the diet.

my little black mini schnauzer had dandruff. it drove me nuts. i asked the groomer what to do, and she said that is was probably the food we fed her. so, almost 10 months ago we switched to canidae all life stages, and her dandruff disappeared within a few days. this was terrific since on black dogs, it showed so bright. try a different food, if that doesn't work, then i would check with a vet. but, the food changed worked for my dog. good luck.

Feeding a high-quality food can really make a huge difference in skin and coat quality, so start there, and bathe the dog with a sensitive skin formula shampoo like an oatmeal formula.

Making dietary changes is your first line of defense in treating hypothyroidism. Learn here https://tr.im/x7QvE
Many people with hypothyroidism experience crippling fatigue and brain fog, which prompts reaching for non-nutritional forms of energy like sugar and caffeine. I’ve dubbed these rascals the terrible twosome, as they can burn out your thyroid (and destabilize blood sugar).
1. Just say no to the dietary bungee cord. Greatly reduce or eliminate caffeine and sugar, including refined carbohydrates like flour, which the body treats like sugar. Make grain-based carbohydrates lesser of a focus, eating non-starchy vegetables to your heart’s content.
2. Up the protein. Protein transports thyroid hormone to all your tissues and enjoying it at each meal can help normalize thyroid function. Proteins include nuts and nut butters; quinoa; hormone- and antibiotic-free animal products (organic, grass-fed meats, eggs, and sustainably-farmed fish); and legumes.
