I've wondered the same thing myself, and I am a Christian. It would seem that any church would be thrilled that someone wanted to help, but unfortunately there are those in some churches who still judge on the outward appearances. All I can tell you is that God knows your heart's desire to serve Him, and He will guide you to a place where He can use you. God bless you!!!

My church doesn't do this at all. All are welcome to volunteer, whether a member of the church or not. Only you must be a member to serve on the board of trustees. We think of ourselves as Practical Christians.
Honey, go find a church where you are loved and accepted for you not for what you have. You'll know when you've found it, it will CLICK. You will feel the love and you will NOT be judged, you will be welcomed and invited to partake of what you are comfortable to try out. Even if it takes awhile to find it, keep shopping. It took me quite awhile when I relocated to a different region of the country to find the one I'm at now. You don't have to join to be of service. That is not anywhere in the Bible. So find the church that fits you, and don't try to 'fit in' to a church. And be forgiving of these people, do the real work of Jesus Christ, forgive not condemn. Forgive them Father, they know not what they do.
If you want, go to MyProfile and you can email me from there if you want details about my church. There might be one near you.
Blessings on your search for a fellowhip family that sustains you and accepts you and LOVES you (even if they do it imperfectly).

Bibleman,
I suggest that you follow what our LORD told HIS Disciples to do. Shake the dust from your feet and move on. I do not generally see this in Churches around our area. I have visited a number of different churches in the last fifty years and I have been made comfortable in each one of them at different times. I became a Christian with my wife after a long Bible Study and we have continuously gone to the same wonderful church since that time. Make sure where you end up is following GOD'S WORD and not man's doctrinal creeds. Have a great week.
Thanks,
Eds

Come Judgment Day; Which will be your judge; God the Father and Jesus, or the pastor of those churches?

It certainly isn't like that in our fellowship I can assure you. We are part of the East Midlands Christian Fellowship (we are based in the Spa town of Buxton) and we certainly don't act like this towards people who wish to serve in our church we welcome them with open arms as our coffee rota for example shows!!!
Where on earth did you meet these people? They have a serious problem with this and are not doing what Jesus taught in the Gospels (see Matthew 7)

If a Church's only purpose is to judge you, you're in the wrong Church.

That's because they aren't Christians and that church is probably a business prowl for the wealthy.
