It may help make you feel full so you don't eat as much, and it will help keep you hydrated. Both of these things are good for you. If you would otherwise drink sugary drinks like regular soda or juice, then it will help by eliminating about 100 calories/cup from your diet. There's no such thing as an exercise that will burn stomach fat. This is a common misconception in the fitness world - that you can exercise away fat in a specific part of your body. The truth is, you lose weight wherever you store weight (which is 100% genetic) as you lose it everywhere. So, if you store your fat in your waist, you'll only lose it by losing weight over all. On the other hand, you can *tone* your stomach by doing exercises such as sit ups, crunches, leg raises, and so on. These will harden your abdominal muscles, but if they're buried under fat, that's where they'll stay until you lose weight. Good luck!

Its actually not true that you should DRINK 6-8 glasses of water a day, its that your body needs the EQUIVALENT of 6-8 glasses a day, as in water from your food as well.
You should drink when you are thirsty, eat when you are hungry but keep things in moderation and exercise regularly to lose weight.

Being properly hydrated means your body will function more efficiently, including metabolizing fat. When you drink water you will be more apt to be active because it will be less difficult for your body to do so. Some say that it takes up room in your stomach which is partially true, but it doesn't help all that much. The main thing is the healthier you are(hydration being part of that) the more likely your body will maintain a healthy weight.

All of those plus the fact that thirst is often misinterpreted by the brain as hunger.
Why? If you don't drink a lot of water now, your body gets some of the hydration it needs from food. Water is more needed by the body than food, but if that's where it's coming from, you will crave food even if you only need water.
That's what my doc said for what it's worth...

when ur hungry it could be that ur dehydrated realy an ur body is passing the message on that u need to eat but all u realy need to do is drink, therfore u wud eat, but if u drink it gets rid of that hunger pang. water fills u up more, and flushes out toxins, also its a good fibre source so ur waste comes out properly.
most of ur body is made up water, so to ensure ur body keeps functioning to its best drink lots of water. and drinkin water cleans u from the inside, so its good to drink water to keep u healthy.
hope i helped you out

It flushes the toxins out of your system and helps to regulate your immunity. It doesn't specifically help you lose weight though. You also feel fuller so are less inclined to eat and put weight on.
