The only negagtive effect it has is that if used everyday over a long period of time it can make you lazy, but using only during the weekend isn't bad. It can also be harmful if it is laced with something, so be careful who you get it from. The only reason it is NOT legalized is because many people would lose money. If it was legal, many people would swicth from the only legal drug, alcohol, to pot and the alcohol industry would lose money. Many people are just badly informed or just accept what they have heard as true and don't take the time to really find out the facts.

Medicinal marijuana is the best thing since aspirin...I have worked with end stage AIDS patients and they smoked and it helped them...
I do not know that there has been any final defining study about the harmfulness of pot....but I have this to say...
I am Native...this is something that grows on this planet...it is not chemically synthesized or corrupted in any manner before intake...the side effects include euphoria and appetite increases....wow...and yet people die over this plant and men pulll it out of the ground as though it were not on this planet for a reason...if legalized and families grew it in their garden then the war on drugs would have to take a holiday or go after the poppy and cocoa growers

In moderation, it's great, and less harmful than drinking. If done to excess, it can lead to lung problems, and sometimes a general lack of motivation. Some people find its anti-anxiety and painkilling effects, or its recreational value, to outweigh these possible negatives. It's not for everyone, but if you like it and are able to honestly assess your use, there are no major health complications.

Also, to the folks saying it will make you grow breasts, or kill you... it's fine if you want to avoid pot because the government tells you to, but do a little research before passing on those lies.

Anytime you inhale anything that is a result of carbon combustion irregardless of the fuel is carcinogenic.

However, the active chemical in cannabis, THC is actually not harmful. In fact is it a close relative to certain chemicals that your own brain produces.

You actually need to have receptors in your brain for THC or you will not experience a high from cannabis.

All that being said, everything in moderation and THC, like other drugs are not for everyone.

Depends. It has more tar than cigarettes but I've never heard of someone crashing their car into a tree because of it. However; I wouldn't suggest hanging out with potheads. Pot is ssoooo much more powerful than it was when I was young. The culture is very different too. You would be better off involving your self in something that will secure your future rather than spending your time playing with it.

Almost anything can be bad for you if you abuse it. Pot's not a big deal. Just don't be an idiot and do it everyday and waste all your money on it. If you're at a party and decide to smoke a little, it's not going to kill you. If you don't trust yourself to not get out of control, don't do it. I smoked in high school and always hid it from my Dad. Then one day he told me that he knew and he always knew. I asked him why he didn't ground me or something and he said that my grades were good, I went to work every day, I had money and kept up on my bills, so he knew I wasn't out of control. Just keep it under control and don't get caught. You'll be fine.

Yes, it is bad for you.

But not as bad as some people say. It's not as bad for your health as tobacco or alchol, for example.

The short term effects of pot, memory-loss, dry-mouth, etc., are pretty obvious, and very minor.

Long-term abuse of marijuana can lead to chronic memory problems, severly dimininished reaction time, and low sperm count.

However, the data seems to show that marijuana has no permanent damaging effects. So even the most chronic hippie burnout can get back to normal if they would just quit.

yes
I smoked for years and have awful respitory problems now and i cough like an 80 year old lifelong smoker..
here are some facts...
Smoking marijuana leads to changes in the brain that are similar to those caused by cocaine, heroin, or alcohol.
Marijuana affects alertness, concentration, perception, coordination and reaction time, many of the skills required for safe driving and other tasks. These effects can last up to 24 hours after smoking marijuana. Marijuana use can also make it difficult to judge distances and react to signals and sounds on the road.
Someone who smokes marijuana regularly may have many of the same respiratory problems that tobacco smokers have. These individuals may have daily cough and phlegm, symptoms of chronic bronchitis, and more frequent chest colds. Continuing to smoke marijuana can lead to abnormal functioning of lung tissue injured or destroyed by marijuana smoke.
. A study of college students has shown that critical skills related to attention, memory, and learning are impaired among people who use marijuana heavily, even after discontinuing its use for at least 24 hours. Researchers compared 65 "heavy users," who had smoked marijuana a median of 29 of the past 30 days, and 64 "light users," who had smoked a median of 1 of the past 30 days. After a closely monitored 19- to 24-hour period of abstinence from marijuana and other illicit drugs and alcohol, the undergraduates were given several standard tests measuring aspects of attention, memory, and learning. Compared to the light users, heavy marijuana users made more errors and had more difficulty sustaining attention, shifting attention to meet the demands of changes in the environment, and in registering, processing, and using information. The findings suggest that the greater impairment among heavy users is likely due to an alteration of brain activity produced by marijuana.

Depends, in the 70s, pot was as natural as anything. It gave you a high without nasty side effects and it made you see the funny side of everything. Man, I never laughed as much in my life...!
However, the stuff that's around today is not the same and I would treat it with a lot of caution.

It's bad for two very simple reasons.

1.) It impairs your judgement.
2.) It kills brain and lung cells.

I've "been there, done that, and got the T-shirt" and I can tell you the long-term damage it does to your brain is the worst part.
