Assuming that you have no friends or family to move your property out by the end of the month; the apartment owner does an eviction by abandonment, and sells your property either at auction or in a yard sale.
What they can't sell is usually thrown away.

It depends if you live alone and you don't have the money to pay for your apartment then your stuff will be thrown out and it will just be lost. This is ofcourse assuming you don't have someone that can go get it for you. and keep it till you come out. Also when you come out you will have a double wammy on you. One you would of been evicted for non payment of rent and two most apartment places don't rent to ex offenders

The exact procedure will depend on the state, however if the apartment is simply ignored (instead of having a friend wrap it up for you) the apartment manager will take possession of the unit either using eviction for non-payment of rent or abandonment procedures.
The items in the apartment would either be sold to satisfy the debt remaining or placed in to storage under the renters name. Since the renter would not pay the storage fee, the items would be sold to pay the storage fees.
The apartment would keep any deposit and would likely get a judgment for back rent, the cost of removing all of the items left in the apartment, cleaning etc.

Scenario 1 : (You are in good terms with your landlord)
You are entitled to make phone calls whether you are at custody or in jail. So you can inform your landlord whether you still want your stuff. Cost of removal, storage etc can be deducted from your deposit.
Scenario 2 :
Something called "wealth redistribution" will start before you notice.

Most people have family/friends that they have pick up their belongings and store them. If you have absolutely no friends or family at all and have no funds or any way to contact the apartment management and make arrangements, you will be kicked out of the apartment for failing to pay the rent and your belongings will be held for a certain amount of time while they try to send you certified letters to let you know what you owe and about picking up your things and if you fail to do it - they will have the right to dispose of it.

Depends on the landlord, some will take your stuff and put it in the basement storage, some will sell it, some will take it to the trash and throw it away, while others will set up their house and their friends houses with your stuff.

You can have someone put it in storage for you, but, of course, you would have to pay those fees.
If you are not occupying the apartment, and not paying rent, the landlord has the right to just toss your things on the garbage pile after you are a month delinquent. I believe this is true.

Ebay! --- usually the apartment complex will just auction the property off once you go into default on your rent and are evicted.

What apartment? After the first month of not paying the rent the landlord rents it to 16 illegal aliens and they keep your stuff.

The food for one will rot after about two months the electric company will shut off your power.
The cops will typically plunder whatever is valuable and sell it on E-Bay.
