i have recently acquired a ford mondeo DX 2003. This week, the light that looks like a snowflake (the middle light of 3 - round circles - above the temp gage on dash) has stayed on the colour orange, when starting my car and whilst driving. Somtimes the snowflake light on dash is red then goes to orange or ocasionally goes back to red or off altogether! I dont know what this symbol means, but i have done 150 miles today down motor way, the light was on red to start with for about 1/2hour then then went to orange and stayed on all the way back. Please help does anyone know what this symbol; means? Is it somethiong to do with the temperature in the air as it has been very cold today!! HELP !!

It is the outside temperature warning.
Our Scorpio has this feature. It shows amber at 4 degrees & red at 0 degrees.
Also (a little off course!), some vehicles with automatic transmission also have a button with a snowflake on. When turned on it stops the gearbox selecting first gear to help reduce wheelspin when pulling away.

I think you could be talking about the frost warning indicator. I have a Fiesta ST and they have the same indicator light. When the outside temperature is between +1C to +4C then the orange light comes on, if it goes below this temperature then the light turns red indicating the possiblity of icy roads, i.e. if this light is either in the red or orange drive with that in mind. Ford however in their manual do have a disclaimer indicating that above +4C roads may not be free of hazards caused by inclement weather, so if the outside temp suddenly goes up and the indicator light goes off, then you have an accident caused by ice, I think it's a case of don't blame Ford! Hope this helps.

It could be a number of things..... Probably an indicator telling warning you of icy road conditions. Amber means possibility of icy roads, and red to say definite icy roads.

But that's only a guess...... why not look it up in the owners manual. That's normally what they are there for.

It's an outside temperature warning, as far as I recall it comes on amber at 4C and goes to red approaching 0C.

I think it's an ASTERISK. It's giving you a warning about something. Check your manual.

Frost/ice warning! Red is serious, amber is a warning!
