you're a collage student? Ivy league I would guess.
This is NOT a dog for the average pet owner.
They were bred with specific traits in mind. Intelligent, very strong, territorial and protective to the extreme---a bred guard dog.
I have worked with this breed on a limited basis and they can make a pit bull look like a kitty cat.
This breed is illegal/banned/zone restricted in many areas.
Check your area carefully.
No--I do NOT believe in this practise.
Can you care and house a dog such as this?
Can you provide the level of training required to make it a good citizen rather than a bad news story?
I would recommend some lengthy and intense research before you take any action.

The Dogo Argentino is not a breed of choice if you have little to no dog experience . This breed is bred to hunt Wild Boars , Jaguars and Cougars . You can look on Petfinder.com or a breed rescue group to see if there are any dogos in your area . But i would really think you'd need to reconsider getting a Dogo if your in college .

I concur with just about everyone here. They are NOT dogs for novice or beginner owners. They are working dogs with strong protective and hunting instincts as they were bred to hunt wild pigs and jaguars. If you like the look of a Dogo, I'd suggest checking www.petfinder.com and looking up mostly white boxers, white American pit bull terriers, or white American Staffordshire terriers who need homes. Beware though, the white coat color is often linked to deafness and other physiological problems. And all this I would suggest waiting until AFTER you are done with college, or at least have a place by yourself.

I would wait until you have TONS more time and money, these are dogs that need a lot of training. If you don't have the money to purchase the dog, you probably don't have the money for the vet bills. When you graduate and get on your own two feet (your own house, your own yard blah blah blah) Look for a dogo argentino rescue site....

As a college student you don't have the $1,000 for the dog then you don't have enough money to feed a large dog, pay for vet care and you don't have time or money for the extensive obedience training these dogs need. These are large, dominant intense dogs that need handlers that spend a lot of time training them and they are not for beginners. You are not a good candidate to be an owner of this breed.
