A man dies and goes to heaven. Of course, St. Peter meets him at the Pearly Gates. St. Peter says, "Here's how it works. You need 100 points to make it into heaven. You tell me all the good things you've done, and I give you a certain number of points for each item, depending on how good it was. When you reach 100 points, you get in."
"Okay," the man says, "I was married to the same
Woman for 50 years and never cheated on her,
Even in my heart."
"That's wonderful," says St.Peter, "that's worth three points!"
"Three points?" he says. "Well, I attended church
All my life and supported its ministry with my tithe and service."
"Terrific!" says St.Peter. "That's certainly worth a point."
"One point!?!!" "I started a soup kitchen in my city and worked in a shelter for homeless veterans."
"Fantastic, that's good for two more points," he says.
"Two points!?!! "Exasperated, the man cries. "At this rate the only way I'll get into heaven is by the grace of God."
"Bingo, 100 points ! Come on in!"
We often try to fix problems with WD-40 and duct tape. God did it with a nail.
AMEN...

The Bible is quite clear that our own works do not help merit salvation. “Not by works of righteousness which we have done” (Titus 3:5). “Not of works” (Ephesians 2:9). “There is none righteous, no not one” (Romans 3:10). This means that offering sacrifices, keeping the commandments, going to church, being baptized, and other good deeds are incapable of saving anyone. No matter how “good” we are, we can never measure up to God’s standard of holiness (Romans 3:23; Matthew 19:17; Isaiah 64:6).
Grace is God’s giving us something we cannot earn or deserve. According to Romans 11:6, “work” of any kind destroys grace—the idea is that a worker earns payment, while the recipient of grace simply receives it, unearned. Since salvation is all of grace, it cannot be earned. Faith, therefore, is a non-work.

Works do not save you. We all know eternal life is a free gift we can't earn. Eph. 2:8, 9, Romans 6:23. Same content in any Bible.
But we can't be saved just by belief, we must obey/have the works or we do not get saved. Hebrews 5:8, 9, Philip. 1:29, Hebrews. 10:26, 29, 6:4-6. Matthew 24:13.
The ones in the Bible like David and others who sinned were REPENTANT thus would not have to be disfellowshipped, but only reproved (as they were! Nathan reproved David for his adultery, then David had troubles the rest of his life over it).
The ones who are disfellowshipped are only the ones showing themselves determined to refuse correction at the time and they can come back and be reinstated if they correct the gross wrongdoing.

No. I believe that the truth is that my salvation is a gift from God. I have accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior. I enjoy doing good deeds, it's my way of showing HIS love to others. Good deeds don't get us to heaven. Salvation does. I do good things for others for the Glory of the Lord. To honor HIM.
Being Born Again, having the Holy Spirit in me, it is natural to do good things for others.. He said, every time we are kind to someone, we are kind to Him. It is all for His glory.

The Pelagian heretical idea that we can put a smile on God's face by our own deeds, or even the semi-Pelagian heretical concept that we have the ability in ourselves (as if there is a spark of goodness in us at that very moment; good grief!) to receive Christ for our very salvation, are nothing but a stench in the nostrils of our loving Creator and Judge, Whom knows all! How can anyone believe otherwise if they do know the extreme contrast in character between us and God, ever since the fall of humanity into sin, and being under the curse of the evil one? One must supress the truth in unrighteousness in one's conscience, sear their mind toward these pharisaical, Pelagianistic lies, and revel in their filthy legalistic hearts to do otherwise!

Primarily if you do good deeds you must be a good person. If you do bad deeds you must be a bad person.
So there is a logic in thinking that good deeds will bring you into God's favor.
Deeds like helping our neighbors, paying taxes, obeying the laws of the land, respecting authority. Pay God's things to God...worship , honor, respect and telling others about the Kingdom of God and the good news of the future. .Matthew 24:14 Daniel 2:44 Rev. 21:3,4
If we don't accept Jesus and are his footstep followers then we go against God for God sent him to us to teach us God's ways. We must believe he lived and died for our sins and is our King of the Messianic Kingdom and also Lord of Lords.

Deeds don't mean anything. You must accept and believe in Jesus.

You get saved by accepting Jesus as your Lord and Savior, the deeds just come out of you.

the bible says you can't work for it or buy it, the only way to receive it is through Jesus Christ, no man or organization can give it to you!

Interesting question since I have been pondering the levels of sin and such:
I hope you can follow my thinking here: I was wondering about God and his chosen people being mostly adulterers..Moses Abraham David....all had more than 1 wife....yet god didn't seem to condemn them.....(If they were Jehovah's Witnesses, they would be disfellowshipped for gross sin)
My Christian sister pointed out to me, that it doesn't matter the level of sin...only WE humans think there are degrees of sin...Not god...All l have sinned and fallen short.....
That is why works can not help you with salvation........Hitler and Mother Theresa are still deserving ot the same judgment from God....
Does this make any sense? No Not to us...But is in fact Gods law...and makes perfect (no pun) sense to him.....His ways are not our ways.....That is why it is such a sin to judge and condemn others...That is why we are called to love......
That is why it is such a sin to participate in a disfellowshipping!
