Or are they viewed about the same?

The Flat Earth Society does not need to be publicly refuted---they're clearly a joke, and not really anti-intellectual. Creationism, however, is potentially a treat to our technical, medical, and intellectual competence, and needs to be debunked.

Well, I would have to say "yes" - creation science is viewed with more respect than the "flat earth" mumbo jumbo. Why? Because pictures from space (as well as other criteria) have proven that the earth is not flat; however, noone can yet prove that there was not intervention by a supernatural creator on this planet at some time. Now that depends, of course, on how literal of an interpretation of the "creationism" is. If it is the strictest form, where it is believed that the earth was created in 6 days, and that humans have only been here for 6000 years, then I think that would fall into the "not-so-respected-by-scientists"category.

Both are thought of as incorrect, anti-intellectual, and they are both used as punchlines in derisive jokes.

The difference between the two, as I see it, is I can't think of an upside to promoting the incorrect idea that the earth is flat. But if you're selling a religion and your customers are the types who don't like (or don't comprehend) any ambiguity, promoting the fiction of creationism seems like a pretty good way to keep the donation basket full on Sundays.

So to answer your question, I don't know that respect is a word that would ever be used by the science community to describe either faction.

Cynicism, on the other hand, abounds. It's hard to feel anything more than amusement or pity for someone who can't think of 10 ways to easily demonstrate we're on a globe. But it's hard not to be cynical when you think of how creationists cloak their message in caring, moral terms, when in fact they represent a movement which fondly remembers the dark ages as "the good old days."

I think it actually gets a LITTLE more respect, simply because science has never said "THERE IS NO CREATOR".

The Creation scientists do have some respect, as long as they don't try to teach that "God created 2 people 6000 years ago in a garden"

Some of them actually just want to say, "God had a hand in the formation of the universe."

Unfortunately, most of them are not this way. The only reason most people call themselves "Creation scientists" is because they want people to take them seriously when they try to write "theories" on how the magic garden story happened.

Those people are laughed out of the room in honest scientific discussions.

About the same.

Look at this Flat Earth society ad from the early 20th century and compare it to the Dr. Dino website. It's a scream: http://blog.modernmechanix.com/2006/05/19/5000-for-proving-the-earth-is-a-globe/

No.

Most scientist revile ID and creation science, because they use pseudo science to fool people purposefully. That is worse than old fashioned religious belief.

If you know the proper way to scientifically study something, but purposefully ignore things and create false premise, despite your training and education. You are not just being 'faithful' you are outright lying and deceiving people.

This is why most ID 'scientists' are looked down apon by the general scientific community, they are falsifying scientific method.

The Earth is flat. You know when you look in a glass and the water curves; well the Earth is mostly covered in water so it only appears to be round.

Depends on what side of the fence you're on...don't forget the Flat Earth Society got it's beliefs from illiterate scientists...
