a girl on this forum asked for others to pray for her, i said a 'hail Mary' for her, but as usual i included everyone else. in your opinion does it lose anything when instead of praying for individuals, you include the whole world? i saw a bumper sticker that said" God bless the whole world-no exceptions" i'm sure it was in response to the many "God bless america" stickers. does it lose any meaning because it is all inclusive? isnt it better to include everyone on earth in your prayers? or would God think that to generalized.

Of course it is! The more we include others unlike ourselves the more compassion we bring to this war torn world.

It is just as effective to include everyone. There is no effect. I still wonder why people that believe in God believe in the power of prayer. I think it is arrogant to point out things that an all knowing being should already know and even worse to try to bend it's will to your own. Even if God intervenes on a personal level for the person you are praying for wouldn't it be God's will and not yours. If it was God's will then why would it need prayed for in the first place?

There is nothing wrong with praying for everyone on earth and making an inclusive prayer for all. In fact, I would argue that there is a certain power to this kind of prayer as long as it is prayed with a desire to see God's will be done and it is prayed in the name of Jesus Christ. Broad, sweeping prayers where we expect God to do great and unimaginable things are declarations of our faith in God. Evangelical Christians today need more of these prayers, especially when it comes to spreading the good news to a world lost in hopelessness and sin. I would also argue that praying for world peace and for world prosperity isn't enough. Christians need to pray for sinners all over the world to find peace and forgiveness in Jesus Christ. True joy, true peace and true prosperity apart from the good news of Jesus is a myth. Of course, we can't neglect the power of specific prayer as well.

I believe that God wants a personal relationship with you and within that He wants you to communicate with Him in the form of prayer.
If He was standing right in front of you (visibly), would you chant a few Hail Mary's and make an generalized request for a certain person??? I don't think so....
Talk to Him, just as if you are speaking to your parents or your best friend. I truly believe He already knows your heart and what you are going to ask....the point is He wants to have a relationship with you.
Best wishes!

Prayer works in sop much as the energy you put into the universe that you get back. No good deed goes unpunished, so if you do an all-inclusive prayer expect all-inclusive punishment.

You can pray all you want but it doesn't do anything. Therefore, you can pray and include everyone. In fact, that's the best way to get results... just play those odds.

Prayers have been scientifically shown to have no effect, so either way is fine.
