I've been collecting firearms related books for years. I buy them new online at amazon.com, and I find the older ones at yard sales and swap meets. I have found a few at Barnes and Noble book stores, I've come across them at local gun shops, gotten them for presents from family and friends and of course as others here said, at gun shows. I also find a lot of reference books for sale thru gun magazines and the NRA has a few that are worth having as well. Prices range from a couple of bucks at yard sales and swap meets, up to seventy dollars or so. Most average around fifteen to twenty five bucks. I have found the older books to be very helpful in research too. I'd recomend you add a copy of "Flayderman's" guide to antique american firearms and their values. My older copy was $30.00 new, but well worth it. I also suggest that you get copies of owners manuals for every firearm you can. I have dozens of them on my bookshelf and I can't tell you how many times I have made copies for family or friends who lost one, or how many times I have pulled one out to refresh my memory before working on, or messing with a particular firearm. Just a quick glance at my bookshelves reveals such gems as "the guide to modern firearms", the "small arms of the world", And books about many countries and their military and sporting rifles,"the worlds great rifles" and several sets of "gun digest" books broken down by type of fire IE: semi auto pistols, revolvers, shotguns etc. My favorite finds are older books from yard sales, etc that give some really good info on firearms of the times and tips from old school gun smiths and shooters. Of course elmer Keiths books are a part of my collection, as are several leather bound special edition sets from the NRA that have been offered to members over the years. While very expensive, they make for good study. I have manuals and books from schools put on by S&W and GLOCK and COLT and REMINGTON and SIG to name a few.The list is endless, and I will probably continue to add to it till the day I die. It will then pass on to my oldest son.

A great way to build your firearm library is by going to your local Gun Show, there will be vender's that will have rare & out of print books and your latest books that you may find interesting. If that don't work for ya try looking for the same books on eBay (I have) because you'll find new and used book also. The only draw-back on eBay is that if you don't always know a title you could spend a hole lot of time there searching, as at the Gun Show it's a hands on.
I hope this information will become useful, good luck.

I buy gun books from all sources but no one mentioned used book stores. I find lots of gun books there and the price is right because few gun buffs poke around book stores. So the proprietor will sell them cheap to have the shelf space for faster selling books.
