The New Catholic Encyclopedia, in its article “Soul, Human, Immortality Of,” says that early Church Fathers found support for belief in an immortal soul, not in the Bible, but in “the poets and philosophers and general tradition of Greek thought . . . Later, the scholastics preferred to make use of Plato or principles from Aristotle.” It states that “the influence of Platonic and Neoplatonic thought”—including belief in the immortal soul—eventually was inserted “into the very core of Christian theology

The Westminster Dictionary of Christian Theology says that the concept “owes more to Greek philosophy than to biblical revelation.” The Jewish Encyclopedia explains: “The belief that the soul continues its existence after the dissolution of the body is a matter of philosophical or theological speculation rather than of simple faith, and is accordingly nowhere expressly taught in Holy Scripture.”

The Bible plainly states that “the wages sin pays is death”—not eternal torment. (Romans 6:23)

I belive its in the bible, right from the begining of man's creation. The fact that Adam and Eve had free will to do as they pleased and could of had a perfect would to live in, they gave it up to belive Satan. He told them in the day that they eat from the tree in the middle of the garden, their eyes would surley be opened. WRONG, they lost their paradise, and went to live among thorns. So yes I would pretty much say "They sold their soul to the devil." Whats really bad is we inherited this sin.

Why would you sell your soul to someone ( something ) that does not exist? It's the same as giving tithing to the church- Does god really need your money?

I think that a few of the more notorious metal bands out there generated a certain appeal amongts youngsters and those youngsters became extremily disillusioned when their favorite bands fell apart and died.

And so they sold their souls out of something to do.

I don't know. I think if anyone could grant me wishes for signing a contract, I'd see God has power and convert to Christianity.
