I've noticed I can play a lot in some casinos and get few comps, but other casinos are much friendlier with room and dinner comps. I mostly play machines. Anyone know if there is a certain amount to play to get comps, or is it based on how long you play?

I do get comps to some mid-level casino hotels in Vegas pretty consistently, and I'm not a huge player. My theory is how long you last at the machines matters, so I play lots of Deuces Wild video poker, where it's easy to stretch your money.

For me, it's cheaper to go to Vegas, even with the airfare, than NYC, which is driving distance, when all the comps are factored in.

Your comps are based on how much money goes through the machines you play. How much you win or lose makes little difference, it's all about what you bet. And since they can accurately track exactly how much bet on a given day, you can get comped the same amount at any betting level if you play long enough. So a person playing 50 cents a pull at the penny slots can get comped just as much as someone playing $3 a pull at the $1 slots, they just have make 6 times as many bets at the machines per day (on average).

How much you need to play to get comped can vary greatly from casino to casino. Some casinos will give you nothing while you're here, then send you offers for things in the mail when you get home. Others, like 'locals' casinos, will tell you exactly how many points you must earn to get certain things, like meals, rooms, free play, etc. In general though, large strip hotels will comp you less than small and locals casinos.

Any comps would be minimal. Comps are to build loyalty. Playing one hand isn't loyal. One of the parts of the comp equation is time played. Your time played probably won't be enough for you to get put into the system. Also games with low house percentages, such as baccarat, don't have high comp payouts. And you shouldn't have a problem finding a casino willing to take a $20k wager in baccarat. Baccarat has ridiculously high maximums compared to most games as it is a favorite of the extremely high rollers.

Ask your host what level of play for how long for what type of comp. If you have been to the same casino a couple of times, you can ask for your own host.

Comps in general are based upon your theoretical loss. You may play dollar machines for 5 hours and that may mean the same loss as quarter machines for 10 hours. The more money you put into a machine in total, the more comps you get.

They do not call vegas, Lost Wages for nothing.

I know that they make it easy for people to stay there, because they want people to gamble their lives away.

You may get a room, etc.......: For a cheap price, but you will most likely pay more, through gambling, then if you didn't gamble @ all.
