Is it okay to claim an Asian heritage because of the theory that Native Americans came from Asia.

Who will chew me out first, come on, go ahead.

I love you.
I think I would be more proud of having a native american heritage than an asian one, but do whatever you want.
Although, I would say that claiming something based on a theory is a little unfounded. Just because it might have happened, and could have happened and probably happened. doesnt mean that it did happen. How can you honestly say that you are when it is only a theory.

Instead of saying "Asian heritage" (which implies having the culture, etc.) why not say "Asian ancestry" (which implies ancestors from Asia)?
Many claim that the Indians did NOT cross an ice bridge; I agree that theory has too many holes in it. But, read "Red Earth, White Lies", written by a Colorado Indian, who says that Indians came to America by BOAT. Makes more sense.
I would also suggest a DNA study be done, by www.familytreedna.com or one of the others. That will certify Asian or other DNA conclusively.
I am part Eskimo, U.S. native and Innuit; it also shows Asian ancestry!

Claim to who? And for what purpose?

You can surely claim that I guess. I mean whether you have Native American ancestry or not, you probably have some "asian" blood in the past 10,000 or so years. Through multiple lines.

But by that standard, we could also claim to be Garden of Edenians. Or whatever belief you hold as to where man first appeared.

Honestly, if you are talking thousands of years ago, you can claim to be anything you want. And will in all likelihood be correct.

It isn't up to anyone here to chew you out/ not chew you out. And you decide for yourself what you want to claim.
99% of the persons with genealogical experience will normally tell you that they DON'T claim anything without some solid documentation. An anthropologist might approach it otherwise, depending on which "expert" he thinks is good, or what he finds online. You can easily find many pages online of persons who believe they have been kidnapped by aliens.
I tend to stay away from many sections of yahoo answers, if they are topics that are controversial, and it all disinegrates into debates or even fights. Genealogy should not be one of those topics, since the whole point of it is finding documentation in verifiable records.
What YOU accept as "verifiable" is up to you. If you are talking about something that is theoretical to begin with, many people IN GENEALOGY will disagree with you.
