Personally, I love the Marines. "Quality of life" is not even an issue, and, being female, I can't do special forces (that sucks). But on the other hand Jump School sure looks like hella fun and college benefits really got me thinking.

because I wanted to go

My husband joined the marine corps because he felt they were the best and if he was going to join he wanted to be a part of the best - they do seem to have more stringent standards about some things. In my experience the family services available on a marine corps base are excellent. The marine corps offered my husband many different options within the officer program from being a grunt to what he is now, a helicopter pilot.

My father was a marine. I chose the army instead because of several reasons.
1. Enlisted rank is faster. I was an E5 in 31 months.
2. Jump School was guaranteed.
3. You can't be a green beret in the Marines.
4. Enlist with the Ranger option and you get everything, and more, that you were looking for in the Marines.

When I became an officer:
1. Marine OCS = waiting list
2. Army OCS = classes aren't filled when they begin.

I orginally joined the army in the delayed entry program , but after finding out I would most likely be stationed in one place my entire tour I switched over to the navy so I could visit many places. i am glad I did. i had more liberty in more countries than I can even recall. I wouldn't bash any military branch , everyone serving is a HERO in my eyes. besides the NAVY gets to see the most beautiful sunrises and sunsets. In my 4 years in the NAVY i spent 515 days at sea haze gray and underway, and I wish i could do it all over again. I also joined the NAVY at the same time the village people had the "in the Navy " song so maybe thats why I changed my delayed entry program

I don't suffer from sea sickness, but growing up with lots of Navy around I heard many stories about going out on a float. The idea of being at sea with only short times on shore did not appeal to me.

I joined the army because they would let me choose which job I wanted to do and gave me a generous bonus to sign up as well. I also had a greater choice of schools to attend, Airborne and SFQC (Special Forces Qualification Course) among them.

I found out that the Army recruiter was lying to me. So I joined the Marines with my friend.

I went to join the Marines but didn't weigh enough so I walked next door and joined the Army.

my husband join the army instead of the marines because from what we read and heard the army was more about families..... the army had more resources to help the family that were left behind at deployment time and the over all housing on army post was better....

i hope this helps you just a bit....

I joined the Army National Guard because I wanted to go to school and they gave excellent college benefits. :)
