In John 20:17, Jesus told mary Magdalene to tell his followers: " I ascend unto my Father and your Father: and to my God and your God."
Does it not tell clearly that Jesus Christ pbh did not claim divinity.

Mike P:
“Jesus said unto them, ‘Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.’ ”
But it is also mentioned in the bible
Prophet Solomon is reported in Proverbs 8:23-27, to have said, “23Ages ago I was set up at the first, before the beginning of the earth. 24When there were no depths I was brought forth, when there were no springs abounding with water, 25Before the mountains had been shaped, before the hills, I was brought forth; 26before he had made the earth with its fields, or the first of the dust of the world 27When he established the heavens, I was there.”
According to Job 38:4 and 21, God addresses Prophet Job as follows: “4Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell me, if you have understanding... 21You Know, for you were born then, and the number of your days is great!”

It is made clear here that Jesus' s father is now our father, and Jesus' God is now our God. Because prior to the death, we had no relationship with God because our sin stood in the way. Jesus is emphasiszing this. The death and ressurection of Jesus ushered in a new relationship between beleivers and God. That is what this verse is implying.
edit: debbie2: Sorry, but those that dont know Jesus as their peronal Savior do not have relationship with God. We get to God Through Jesus. He is our mediator.
I certainly think the Old testemat prophets/people were used by God and chosen, but if what you say is true, then Jesus Didnt need to come.
Jesus brought a new TYPE of relationship with God, does that sound better?

You can see many will complicate your request by furnishing complex answers.
Jesus, whom represented symbolic truth, was saying : in truth, we are all of the same origin and our creator is one and the same.
It was simple.
Some will claim Jesus was "Devine" and of such Devine origins, And I would respond "aren't we all"?
It cannot be made much more clear than this.
The primary problem is interpretation is many interpret things in a Literal manner when characters-ideas were of an Archeatype teaching method.
In short, the lessons were intended to show personalities a big lesson by inclusion of big ideas, the Archeatype personality (more than one or _all inclisive) was meant to show how "we all fit this character" and this is what "we all do" from time to time.
When we see Jesus walking throught "his Fathers Temple" yelling and overturing the tables of merchants selling goods within the Temple what lesson is learned?
Was the lesson not :" do not use religion" to make money and my Fathers words have no monitary cost?
Symbolism is the language, not literal stories for amusement or "faith" lessons of power.

Jesus was sent by God
Jesus is not God.
God resurrected Jesus when Jesus died.
Jesus is higher than all other creations....much higher than Mary Magdalene.
But in one respect they were both children of God and depending on God for salvation.
Kelly:
You are wrong about no one having a relationship because of Adamic sin. God had many faithful followers he blessed and even spoke to. He called Job a righteous man. What about Moses, Enoch, Abraham, Lot?
Every man has the right to speak to God and ask forgiveness and offer praise.

We need to be careful what we read in the Bible. 1. Jesus wants Mary and His followers understand that there is God the Father or the God head is Spirit and Jesus is not. 2. He is not denying His divinity here. The another example is when Jesus said that I will send the Counselor (Holy Spirit). Jesus is not deying that the Holy Spirit is not part of the Trinity. John 14:15 (Whole Chapter) [ Jesus Promises the Holy Spirit ] "If you love me, you will obey what I command. John 14:17 (Whole Chapter) the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be [ Some early manuscripts and is] in you. John 14:26 (Whole Chapter) But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. John 15:26 (Whole Chapter) "When the Counselor comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father, he will testify about me. John 16:5 (Whole Chapter) [ The Work of the Holy Spirit ] "Now I am going to him who sent me, yet none of you asks me, 'Where are you going?' John 16:13 (Whole Chapter) But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. John 16:15 (Whole Chapter) All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will take from what is mine and make it known to you. Some other people are trying to put flesh and blood to the Spirit of God and we can not do that. Jesus is trying to explain here that they are one. The God head (Father) The Son (Jesus or Yeshua) and The Holy Spirit (Councelor). Many of the cults does this type of reading in the Bible. They taken out of context and they make their own doctrine and they form their own religion. Be careful to this kind of false prophets they are like a roaring lions seeking for young Christian to eat them alive! I thanks our God that I read your question and I thanking God for using me to answer your question. We need to be aware the God the Father is omni-presence. And Jesus is speaking a human language here that any body can understand the Trinity. Can you imagine if Jesus is speaking a theologian language here? Do you think Mary will understand and the disciples what He means? "I ascended to my father" Did Jesus mention who will ascend Him to the Father? Jesus did right? Is any body can ascend them selves to the Father in heaven? Only God is. And Jesus is God!
I hope this will help you understand this verse. I will pray to God that remove your veil from your eyes that you can see His glory and hold you tight under His wing 'till you can fly by your own and give you wisdom and knowledge that you need to understand His will for your Life. In Jesus Name I give all the glory and honor. AMEN.

When it speaks of ascending the following verse clarifies that it simply meant Jesus had not yet returned to his father in heaven...
Acts 1:10-12 (NIV)
They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. "Men of Galilee," they said, "why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven."

I will answer your question if you answer mine.
In Hebrews 1:8 God is quoted, calling Jesus "God"
"But about the Son He says, 'Your throne O God, will last forever, and righteousness will be the scepter of Your kingdom'".
Since God calls Jesus "God", who does God believe Jesus is?
I am awaiting your answer.
Still waiting.
Come on, it's not that difficult a question.
Your silence only confirms your inadequacy in dealing with scripture. Thank you for making my point.

Not quite true that Jesus and Mary are on the "same platform", seeing Jesus had a sinless, pre-human existence and Mary was a sinner.
But, yes, Jesus is not God. Jehovah is.
That is why many so-called Christians say Jehovah's Witnesses are not Christians, because we read the Bible and tell them that it says Jesus is not God.

Not that verse specifically but it does rule out the trinity from being true. Clearly Jesus believed and knew he and his Father were separate individuals and his Father was the God he worshiped--not himself.

No it does not.
Jesus did claim divinity.
John 14:9
Jesus answered: "Don't you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, 'Show us the Father'?
As well as:
John 8:58
"I tell you the truth," Jesus answered, "before Abraham was born, I am!"
