To remove old wall paper... .Get yourself some spray bottles.. Fill them 1/2 way with very hot tap water and mix with either cheap fabric softner OR vinegar... Go to the hardware store and get a "paper tiger or shark" it's a device that scores the paper so the water solution can get under the glue... Spray liberally on the paper in sections.. Start at the top and work your way down.. If you have carpeting get a good sturdy drop cloth... Let the solution sit for 10-30 min and peel away the paper... You may have to reapply to remove the glue... Rinse with hot tap water and a clean sponge...You can also "rent" a steamer to remove the paper as well...
Good luck

I really want you to know that I just did this this summer and it was so hard!!! Had I known a few things I would have done things differently. The wall paper we had was old very old and it did not come off clean, when pulling at edges I only would get small small pieces, so in this case, it would have been easier for us just to texture and paint over the wallpaper, but we removed it and it was very tedious, but we got it, the trick is heat and unglueing the glue and using a scaper and getting under the paper and just working slow... then we had to sand the walls and then we textured and painted. It was messy, we had dust and wet gluey wall paper all over the place!!! So long story short if the wall paper is old just texture and paint on top... if the wallpaper just comes off nicely without much work then all you need is heat and a good scraper...**side note** if it comes off easily, you do need to take it off because otherwise it will peel off with the paint on top... even worse I hear!!
Good Luck!!

Depends if it's strippable or not. You may end up having to soak the walls in either fabric softener or vinegar (with a spritz bottle and sponge -- or even one of those floor mops), and then scraping it off, after scoring it.
Just be careful how old the house is -- there may be a danger of asbestos underneath. In that case, just lightly sand the paper seams and paint over it.

There is a solution you can mix that is 1 part white vinegar to 3 parts water with 1 teaspoon of dish soap per gallon. You put it on heavy with a sponge and let sit till it starts to peel. You can get a commercial stripper, but I would do this. You are buying a house so save your money. It can get messy and some people are allergic to wall paper paste so get rubber gloves. There you go, and congrats.

You can remove it with a heat gun. Make sure that you read the directions, and be careful not to have it too close to the wallpaper. Otherwise, check with home depot. Someone there can answer all your questions, and they have everything on hand to show you how right there...

There is a liquid that you can apply on the wallpaper and then get this scoring tool ( it's a round thing with little teeth of some sort on the bottom) and that should do. I forgot the name of the liquid prodcut but you can find it anywhere

I have heard of people using steam with some success. I think there is some kind of steam cleaner that is small enough to carry. I would ask someone at The Home Depot or Ace Hardware just to make sure.

The product is called "DIF" it is blue in color, kinda thick, spray it on the wall, leave it for 15 minutes or so and the wall paper will practically fall off. The DIF absorbs (eats) the adhesive in the glue......great stuff!!
