I'm joining the Navy because I want to serve my country. However, I have a family to feed, so I don't want the answer regarding don't join the millitary for the signing bonus. That being said, when do you receive the signing bonus for Navy reserves. I was told by the recruiters that it's up front signing bonus after you PASS your school. Please provide me with feedback. Is this accurate.

After your A school you get your signing bonus. If you fail your A school, you lose your bonus.

Bonuses that are tied to rate are not paid out until after successful completion of A school. Half is paid up front, and the remainder is divided up into equal paymnents over the term of the contract. Unless the bonus is $10K or less, in which case it will be paid in full..less the 28% taken off the top for taxes.

generally speaking, all other bonuses will not be paid out until you arrive at your duty station..mainly because school locations will not process the paperwork. . since Reservists now attend Boot and A school with AD, for all intents and purposes, after you successfully complete A school for those as well.

What they don't tell you is that you have to go and ask for it, you do not automatically receive it. If I'm correct you get half of it when you ask for it then a year later 1/4 of it and then a year after that the final 1/4. Also they take something like 28% out for taxes.

I only received a $2000 general enlistment bonus and that is how they did mine.
