Sounds like someone installed the wrong version. Professional is better than Home as it has more features, so don't worry about trying to change it!

And you want to swtich back because....

The only real difference between Home and Pro is that Pro includes some extra tools for running a computer as part of a company domain. Beyond that, the two are identical.

So there is really no reason to switch back to Home over Pro.

But the ONLY way to do it is to format the hard drive (which wipes out all of your current programs and data files) and then reinstall from an XP Home CD.

I don't believe it can be done without the CD.

However, and assuming you are using XP, please note that XP Professional does everything that XP Home does, and more. There's nothing you can't do with Professional that you can do with Home, so I don't see the point in trying to revert to Home.

Sorry I'm unable to give a direct answer to your question.

The miraculos change is due to an update probably scheduled by you. Try to find those updates in Add/Remove Program. But you shouldn't do anything if the computer works as it should!!!
