Go with an experience of some kind other than material gift. Like tickets to a movie theatre, or the zoo, or a play. If you know them well enough, try to give each one a personal gift rather than a blanket gift for all three. And at 9 they really don't need material things like dolls or video games, honestly! Enrich their lives instead.

low, mid or high budget would be helpful...
low-something that they could do together, athletic balls, basketball goal and ball, CD's
mid-if they have a game console get them a new game, mp3 players(they cost down in the 15-20 bucks each)
high-PSPs
you could always give them a trip somewhere, such as a new movie, the local zoo, ect.
let them be individuals, but if they are really colse give them something that they could do together

Whatever you do, Don't get three identical "somethings".
They are individual children, not three copies of the same one.
Ask the parents if they've know any different individual interests and look for something that meets each kids' interests.
