I just finished reading the book I am Legend the day before I went to the see the movie. How many of you have read the book? Just for entertainment's sake I was happy to overlook the discrepancies between the book and the movie, such as that Neville was not a scientist in the book, Neville didn't have a dog in the book, Neville didn't find the antidote in the book. But I was not ready for the overtly explicit Christian message at the end of the movie. So at the end we find out that God allowed Anna to hear Neville's message over the radio, that God directed her to find Neville, that God allowed Neville to find the antidote, that it was God's plan for Anna to take the antidote to the survivor's colony. Let me know how you feel only if you have watched the movie. I am still in shock!

I think you should delete this question and repost it with a SPOILER WARNING at the top, so that people won't accidentally find out the end of the movie if they don't want to.

To answer your question: I also disliked the idea that God allowed Neville to find the cure, but I thought it could be interpreted differently. Neville didn't hear God until after Anna told him that God talked to her. I think its possible to interpret Neville's hearing the voice of God as Neville hearing his own inner voice after discovering the antidote.

Calm down. Calm down. Repeat after me---It is only a movie.

You can not have a Will Smith summer blockbuster with an unhappy and no hope ending. That will sink and stink at the box office. Naturally they have to change endings to whatever makes the ticket buying public see the movie over and over. Have you not noticed on DVDs the alternate endings of just about every movie?

Want proof? That is one of the reasons (among others) that ARNOLD"s End of Days movie tanked. He had a string of high-grossing movies at one time. People do not pay repeatedly to see the Arnold die in the end. Heroes do not die in big movies.

I just took it as Neville gained faith that made him decide there was a colony. It's not like a god came down and punched the mutants. Anyways it's a fantasy movie. That's the perfect place for gods.

How would it be an atheist movie? Atheists don't believe in the supernatural. The Bible already has a story about God getting ticked off at people and killing every living thing on Earth in a horrific flood, this film is about God getting ticked off at people and sending angels to kill them. It's patterned perfectly on the Abrahamic God.
